Imola Red/Imola Red and Black Nappa leather. When the BMW M Roadster and Coupe were introduced to North America in 1998, they were something of a compromise, and a disappointment. While the Europeans received the S50 motor with 321hp, the North American market had to make do with the detuned S52 motor with just 240hp. BMW sold 2,180 M Coupes stateside through the 2000 model year. But when the new M3 series was introduced in 2001, the M Coupe came along for the ride. The M Coupe received the same S54 motor the M3 got with now a very healthy 315hp utilizing a much greater 11.5:1 compression ratio as well as many other modifications. The S54 also received Dynamic Stability Control integrated into the S54's engine management control. No electronic traction or stability control of any kind was offered on the earlier cars. Also included on the S54's was a low-tire-pressure monitoring system. Little more than a year after its introduction, just 690 S54 M Coupes had been built before production ceased. The S54 can be distinguished by a single "M" on the valve cover (as opposed to "BMW M Power") and the subtly curved shape of the exterior "M" badges. The beautiful red M Coupe before you is one of these rare S54-powered models. This one-owner car was purchased brand-new at the BMW dealer here in Portland. Showing just 26K miles on the odometer, this M Coupe not only received the best of care from its fanatical owner, but it has never once been driven in the rain! All maintenance performed by the dealer with synthetic oil changes always made ahead of schedule. The BMW Design modular wheels are a rare and very expensive dealer option.
