Vehicle Detail
Hello, first thanks for taking the time to look at my auction. Up for auction is my 1981 Mercedes 300SD Turbo Diesel sedan. I have owned this vehicle since 3/21/2009. I purchased it because my wife moved two hours away for school and I wanted a car that was really dependable, got good mileage, and wasn't crazy expensive. So I went with a diesel Mercedes. After I purchased the car I took it in and told my mechanic to go through the engine and service it. Replace what needs to be. He ended up: Adjusted the valves (Says it needs to be done around every 150,000 miles) Changed Oil Changed Trans Oil Changed All filters Installed New Battery Installed New Glow plugs Flushed and replaced Coolant Changed a AC Line and charged it back with Freeze 12 Coolant New Brakes New Headlights Since then I have driven this car to work, and on the weekends to see my wife. It has been my everyday driver and has been extremely dependable. I have not had one mechanical issue with it. It starts right up has plenty of power and is very comfortable. I have decided to sell it because my wife has now returned home and after driving this car I was amazed at the dependibility and comfort so I have purchased a newer Mercedes and just don't have the room or need for it any more. I have listed below the Bad and Good on everything I know about the car. One thing I did install that is not factory is a remote start and alarm. I actually installed it because everyone I talked to about it said it was impossible because the start and stop on Mercedes run off of vacuum not electronics. So I kind of made it my mission to figure it out. I absolutely LOVE IT! While it's cold outside everyone is going out to start there newer vehicle while from the comfort of inside I start my Mercedes and leave getting twice the mileage. I've included a video below that links to you tube of the remote in action. Please if you have any questions let me know I want to have a very clean sell so there are no issues or surprises to myself or the buyer. I check my e-mail very often I will get back with you very soon. Let me start with the bad: -Paint job, it needs one. -Surface rust on passenger side rear fender, small amount on drivers side rear fender, and small amount on drivers door. The drivers side fender when I bought the car had a few dings in it so I replaced it with a new one. Had it professionally installed but did not get it painted because my plan was to take the car to macco and let them do the entire car at once. So the drivers fender is in perfect condition but a different shade of blue than the car. -The previous person had a antenna on the trunk removed it and filled the hole with bondo. It is a very small hole maybe 3/4 inch round at most. -I put seat covers on the front because the driver seat had a tear in it. I really liked the covers better because they have pockets for storage and ended up leaving them. -I purchased a rear seat that is in perfect condition to replace the one that had a tear. The original was a light tan and this one is a light blue. All in all the issues with the vehicle are cosmetic. Now on to the good: -Car starts instantly -Runs like a new car -Has plenty of power -Has a great smooth ride no shimmying or swaying -Shifts great -Starts great even when it is very cold (below freezing) -Interior is in very good shape -All electronics work in car -Engine doesn't burn any oil -AC works great (See pic) -All mechanics work great (Brakes, steering, transmission, engine.) -All vacuum components work (Locks, trunk, fuel door, climate control) -CD Player installed all speakers work and sound great -Remote start with alarm! -All lights work great, low, high, turn, brake. -Tires are in good shape -Runs great on interstate -All seats work, windows, locks. Video of Remote Start: http://youtu.be/aZo0jTmXJ4M Summary: This car has been a life saver to me, it is in no way immaculate or perfect but it is very mechanically sound and dependable. A paint job with a little body work for the surface rust will make this car look brand new. Below is the link to the remote start. If you have any questions please let me know. I've also heard this model car is the ideal one for converting to Waste Vegetable Oil. After listing this vehicle I saw the vehicle report and further investigated why it showed an odometer discrepancy. First the odometer works intermediately, speedometer always works great. So I called DMV and was told in VA where it was inspected and flagged as a discrepancy it is listed as 255k because that is the number automatically listed if there is ever a discrepancy. (Does not mean it actually has that many miles) My title which I am going to try and scan and upload a picture of actually has no mileage listed on it at all. Which they told me in NC is what a title will show if there is any history of discrepancy. (The title also shows it is clean with no leans.) DMV said it's not unusual for a vehicle 29 years old to have an odometer discrepancy. They said more times than not it is a computer issue back in 94 when it was in FL. You can see it shows it gained 182 miles in just 1 day for some reason. Then when the actual mileage was read in MA it flagged it different so it automatically showed 255k. Only owned this car for year and a half and don't know the complete history on it but found it very interesting in the report so I called to ask as well! Fortunately this car is extremely mechanically sound and has lots of life left! Thank-you!!
