YOU MAY OWN AND DRIVE THIS CAR JUST AS IT IS, IN ITS' ORIGINAL FORM. ANOTHER OWNER MAY CHOOSE TO RESTORE IT. EITHER WAY, THIS 1967 CAMARO IS A PIECE OF AUTOMOTIVE HISTORY. THE CAMARO IS THE AMERICAN ICONIC AUTOMOBILE. FROM 1967 UNTIL END OF PRODUCTION OF THE FOURTH GENERATION IN 2002, APPROXIMATELY 4,846,396 UNITS WERE MANUFACTURED, A TESTAMENT TO THE CARS' APPEAL. THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE INITIAL FIRST GENERATION, THE 1967, WAS DUE TO THE DILIGENCE OF SOME OF THE BEST MINDS AT GM. THESE INCLUDED CHEVROLET GENERAL MANAGER PETE ESTES, GM DESIGN CENTER'S CHEVROLET STUDIO DIRECTOR HENRY HAGA, INTERIOR DESIGNER GEORGE ANGERSBACH, AND CHEVROLET ENGINEER VINCE PIGGINS, THE "FATHER OF THE Z28". THE LEGEND WAS REBORN WITH THE 2010 CAMARO, AND CONTINUES TODAY. According to Pontiac designer Bob Porter, GM had actually began experimenting with the concept of a four passenger sports car as early as 1958. He also reported in an interview that similar cars were developed in the 60's from time to time, but corporate had no interest. When the Ford Mustang hit the showrooms in 1964, sold 100,000 units in 6 months and half a million the first year, it finally grabbed GM corporate attention. By April of 1965, reports began surfacing in the automotive press that Chevrolet was preparing a competitor to the Mustang. On June 28, 1966, Pete Estes, in a live press conference, announced the new car line, Camaro, eliminating the original code name, Panther. The Camaro was first unvelied at a press preview in Detroit on September 12, 1966. Official production began in August, 1966. The 1967 Camaro officially went on sale September 29, 1966. The Camaro was wildly successful. Although the majority of the cars built were standard Sport Coupes, Chevrolet upped the ante with the Rally Sport, Super Sport, and the Z28. Chevrolet even matched Mustang's accomplishment, chosen as the Pace Car for the Indianapolic 500 in it's first production year. This Camaro was purchased new in June, 1967, at Reedman's Chevrolet in Langhorne, PA by a man and his wife. The couple drove the car until 1973, when it had logged 67,000 miles. In 1973, it was given to their daughter, who drove it until 1982, with 109,000 miles logged. At that point, it was driven into a garage, where it remained in storage. It has been periodically exercised to keep it in good running condition. Production: The automotive industry uses a model year, instead of a calendar year. Sale dates for new vehicles typically start in September of the prior year and end the following August. Production start/stop dates are a month prior to the sales start/stop dates. There is a production gap of a few weeks between the end of one year and the start of another. This is to allow time to retool the plant for the next production year. So July is a partial production month, then is shut down for retooling. The 1967 Camaro was manufactured from August of 1966 to July of 1967. Chevrolet archives reveal the last Camaro manufactured in 1967 had a vin sequential number of 254698. The Camaro in this auction has a sequential number of 254043, making it number 656 from the end of production. A total of 12,997 cars were produced in the short month of July. Even if you use 15 working days as the dividing number, which seems high, there would have been 866 cars built per day. Chances are it was closer to 1,000. This directly indicates that this Camaro is a last day build car. Even though Chevrolet notes that these numbers may not be exact, and be off by a few, this has been recognized for years as close in accuracy. Now, the description of the car. Since acquiring this rare vehicle, it has been at the restoration shop. The commitment of the restoration personnel was to adhere to originality as much as possible. The paint has been sanded and rubbed multiple times, buffed and polished. A few minor cosmetics were done on the bottom of the car. Still maintains approximately 90% original paint. Nothing drives as well as an original car with factory tolerances. This car starts right up, runs right, drives and stops straight, etc. The body has never been apart. The undercarriage has not been apart. The drivetrain has been in the car since day one. This baby drives just like an original factory car. Original 250 Cu. In. six cylinder engine. THESE OPTIONS INCLUDE THE AL4 STRATO-BACK FRONT BENCH SEAT WITH FOLD DOWN CENTER ARMREST, COLUMN SHIFT, THE N30 DELUXE STEERING WHEEL, LARGE REAR BUMPER GUARDS, INTERIOR DECOR GROUP, EXTERIOR MOLDING GROUP, AND FRONT NOSE STRIPE. JUST OVER 109,000 ORIGINAL MILES. DRIVETRAIN HAS NEVER BEEN REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE. RUNS AND DRIVES WELL. ALTHOUGH LENGTHY, PLEASE READ THE WHOLE STORY ON THIS CAMARO BELOW, AND VIEW ALL THE PHOTOS. HIDDEN TREASURES LIKE THIS ARE DISCOVERED ONCE IN A BLUE MOON.
Countless man hours were spent on this car, day and night, to not only massage the exterior finish back to life, but also clean, maintain, and preserve the interior and drivetrain.
Hood, fenders, doors, roof, quarters, trunk lid, etc. are all original. There are no replacement panels are on this car. The original Marina Blue paint is still on the car. The paint has been sanded and rubbed multiple times, buffed and polished. A few minor cosmetics were done on the bottom of the car. Still maintains approximately 90% original paint. Panels are straight, with a few minor dings and dents, but exceptional for a 109,000 mile car. Paint still holds a shine. The original white nose stripe, which became available mid year on any model, is still on the car. Optional large rear bumperettes. All chrome and stainless is original. Bumpers and front and rear light bezels are in good condition, with minor wear. Door handles and mirrors are in good shape, with some pitting. Stainless trim is all in very good shape. Emblems also in good condition. Rear and side glass are in very good condition. Original windshield has a crack on the lower driver's side. Currently, Rally Wheels with BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires are mounted on the car, P205/70R14. However, the original steel wheels and hubcaps with Sears White Stripe radials, 195x14, go with the car. A photo is included.
The Blue vinyl interior is also original. Rare options include the AL4 Strato- Back full width front bench seat with fold down center armrest, column shift, and N30 Deluxe simulated woodgrain wheel. Dash pad is in excellent condition, with no cracks or discoloration. Gauge faces are clear. Front bench seat is in good condition, with one small split hidden under the driver's seat back. Rear seat in very good condition, with no cracking or discoloration. Driver's door panel in fair shape, with fraying on the bottom. Passenger door panel in very good shape. Original carpet shows wear and minor fading, but in general good shape for its' age. Headliner has 2 rips on the seam that we are attempting to repair. Factory AM radio.
Engine and engine bay are original, with the exception of maintenance and wear items. Note: Engine has never been out of the car. It is important to note the quality of the run and drive on this Camaro. Even the nicest restored car never drives like it did when it left the factory. Has slight exhaust leak. Powerglide automatic transmission. Ten bolt rear differential. Power Steering. Manual brakes. Please view the photos of the undercarriage. This is clean and unmolested an undercarriage as you will find. Not detailed. Rock solid. Trunk is also clean and solid.
