Vehicle Detail
This is a fantastic commuter or learning bike - semi automatic! Only high and low gear, and you don't need to use a clutch to shift. I bought it as an intermediate bike before getting my Honda Shadow 750. You will not believe how awesome this bike is for its age. For safety sake, I recently had a new chain put on, new rear sprocket, front and rear bearings, new rear tire, new spark plugs, carbs cleaned and an oil change. I put just under $1000 into it less than 120 days ago because I used it every day since buying it for commuting to school and work. THE LUGGAGE CASES AND REAR CRASH GUARDS SHOWN IN PICTURE ARE NOT INCLUDED. THEY HAVE BEEN SOLD SEPARATELY. I WILL ALSO CONSIDER PARTING OUT THE BIKE IF I GET ENOUGH REQUESTS FOR PARTS AND THE MOENY IS RIGHT. EMAIL ME THROUGH EBAY WITH ANY AND ALL OFFERS. However, in order to do the description of the bike justice, here is the description from the guy I bought it from (incredible in detail and length - comments in parenthesis were added by me): 1981 Honda CM400A HondaMaticGorgeous and LoadedVehicle DescriptionThis is a simply beautiful and barely-used 1981 Honda CM400A HondaMatic. It's loaded with extras, and I'm going to give a good description, which will be long. Attention-deficit folks just skip to the pretty pictures - they speak for themselves.I bought this little jewel from the original owner (I obviously bought it from the second owner). It has always been stored indoors, and the condition shows it. Everything has been freshened, absolutely everything, and upgraded to use today's fuels, and cleaned/detailed within an inch of it's life. It rides and handles beautifully. For those who don't know, this model was one of the few semi-automatic bikes Honda made that is just click-and-go - it's extremely easy to ride, as you don't have to mess around with a clutch, shifting through a bunch of gears, etc. Just select "Low" or "High", and away you go. The riding ease of a scooter with the good looks and great handling of a real motorcycle. The seat height is an ultra-low 27" - something almost impossible to find these days. Although I have heard of taller folks riding these, it's tailor-made for smaller and medium-sized folks. I'm 6'3" tall and I'm comfortable on it, but if you could be a stunt double for Shaq, this probably isn't the bike for you. It's light, exceedingly easy to handle, and rolls around like a feather. It will easily and happily do freeway speeds of 65-70 mph. You will be pulling down an astounding 55-60 mpg. No, that's not a typo. Insurance for it will be so little as to make you blink.I have a clear, blue Texas title (Florida title now) in my name. The new owner will receive the original, numbered Honda key. Body:Two-tone Candy Sword Blue in excellent condition. The tank and side covers have NO dents, dings, scratches, nicks, chips. It has the real Hondaline luggage rack, which can accept the Hondaline adjustable backrest should you choose to add oneIt has a very sturdy front crash guard with highway footrests built inAll guards have ZERO scratches, scuffs, or bends. This bike has never been dropped even a little bit.The original seat is perfect - soft and supple without a single faultIt has a full-sized windshield that provides protection for the entire upper body, hands, and arms. It is clear and undamaged. I did replace the mounting hardware with new stainless fasteners. The fenders are straight - no scratches or dents. They do have some tiny spots on them that I was completely unable to get to show up in pictures. Unless you take off the seat and shove your noggin under the luggage rack, you are unlikely to notice them.Mechanical:The engine runs like the day it was new. The oil and filter are fresh. The HondaMatic transmission shifts effortlessly and performs flawlessly. The carbs have been completely rebuilt with seals and diaphragms resistant to today's ethanol-blend fuels. This prevents the seepage and outright leaks common on older bikes using today's blended fuels. The engine starts on the first try, every single time, and idles smoothly. It has both electric and kick-start. I verified the kick-start works just for giggles, but I'd imagine most sane humans will simply mash the starter button. It has a brand-new battery. The electrical system is completely original, untouched, unmangled, and absolutely everything works perfectly. All lights, horn, signals, starter, and so forth are 100%.The chain is in excellent condition, properly adjusted, and well-lubricated.Both tires are brand-new Challengers, balanced, with new valve stems, and which have excellent grip and ride quality. They have less than 50 miles on them. The forks have been completely rebuilt with all-new seals, dust caps, and fresh fork oil. They are air-adjustable with no leaks whatsoever. The fork tubes are glorious, with not a single nick or pit in them, anywhere. Almost impossible to find them in this condition. The master cylinder has a new reservoir and was completely rebuilt with all-new internals. The front caliper was rebuilt and all lines flushed then filled with fresh brake fluid. The exhaust is in excellent original condition. There are no rot holes or smashed-in crossover pipes like you find on most of these bikes. The engine is shiny-clean, top, bottom, front, back, sides. There is no dirt or gunk on the bottom or even back of the engine - the whole thing is shipshape clean.Fresh air filterThe inside of the gas tank is *perfect*. No rust, glop, crud, scale, or any other signs of non-newness are present. This bike is very nice. You could gaze lovingly at your own reflection in the perfect, glossy factory paint on the tank. It is, however just a bit dusty from sitting in my shop/barn.This will probably need to be picked up locally, as I'm a private owner and don't really have the ability to crate up the bike. I do have a strong back, and willing hands, though, and would be more than happy to help load and secure it if it's not being ridden to it's new home. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at all - I'll be more than happy to answer them.If you want to personally inspect this vehicle, please feel free to set up an appointment and we'll meet with you. Bid with absolute confidence as I have been a member of Ebay since 1997 (how do you think I was able to get the username of just "philc" - 1 of the early members!) and have had only a single negative experience (from a guy who was mad I had to immediately refund his money when jet skis were no longer available for sale) in over 500 transactions. Please plan on paying immediately if you use "Buy It Now". I only accept Paypal for payment and will deliver the vehicle to the address listed with Paypal - no exceptions. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. The vehicle is being sold "as is" and "where is" with no warranty implied or expressed. Remember, this is a USED VEHICLE and is 29 years old. Don't expect it to be showroom new but do expect it to be a great bike. There will be absolutely no refunds once you buy the vehicle, so come inspect it before you buy - and if you don't - that is not an excuse for a return. Also, the deposit is 100% NON-REFUNDABLE. If you do not pay the balance within 3 days, the deposit if FORFEITED and motorcycle will be relisted. Thanks again for your interest and good luck!!!
