I have decided to sell one of my most prized possessions. I have just acquired another car and need to make room in my garage so I have decided to sell my 1949 Mercury. This car was built completely as a period correct led sled. (with exception of air suspension). All of the body work that has been done was done in Lead. The only part that is not steel are the side skirts they are fiberglass. All of the original stainless steel on the windows has been chopped as well, something you rarely see these days. It even still has the rear pop out windows. Appleton spot lights, Desoto grill, and bad ass 50 Cadillac tail lights it has it all. The rear trunk latch as been shaved. You open it by pulling a lever were the gas tank fill is located. The doors have also been shaved as well but remember this is a period correct led sled so it does not have electric door poppers. Instead the door handles are rigged to work backwards and you open the door by reaching in the vent windows. Upon opening the door you will discover a bad ass tufted nagohide interior. With the original bake-o-light dice Hurst shifter. There is a radio behind the original one that is connected by Speedo cables from a Harley. So you can control the radio behind the old one in front still giving it that period look. The motor is a 55 Cadillac with working tri carbs mated to a Merc 3 speed transmission with eclectic 4 gear overdrive. It has drum brakes all the way around. I put air suspension on this car however the front suspension is completely unmolested, we just removed the springs and put air bags in there place. The rear leave springs were removed and a 4 link was installed. When deflated the skirts are almost on the ground. Everything electrical on this car works, except for the dome lights and hood light. The speakers for the radio need to be replace because there were install in 1982. The car fires up every time, and brakes also work great. However 1 gear is a little noisy and the 2nd gear synco sometimes pops out if you shift to fast. The carbs most likely will need to be overhauled soon, when you give it a lot of gas one is not working right and it does not accelerate like it should. I have been driving the car as is for 3 years and love it! My plans were to restore it just as it is, but people like it so much in it’s current condition I never changed it. Now the reason I am selling the car is because I have currently 5 hot rods and as all you rodders know out there they all need work at some time or the other. I just bought another 49 and don't need 2. My friend sold me his 49 merc at a price that I could not turn down.
