~~oo00oo~~ ~~oo00oo~~ Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II 1978 A nice clean original example! Recently fully workshop serviced.** Here is a really fine and original example of a Shadow II. Finished in Shell Grey (silver) over Mason's Black with dark red fine lines to the waist-rail and hubcap beauty rings. The interior has handsome burgundy Connolly hides and black Wilton carpets with seat matching burgundy piping. The same theme carries through to the boot. This is an unmolested example that has been nicely maintained and presents in very good condition. It is primarily all original with no modifications except for the installation of a later model Blaupunkt radio cassette to that normally fitted. This was a Californian car that also spent several recent years in San Antonio, Texas* so it is a “dry” car that has had a garaged environment. As a result, it has been freed from the perils of harsh weather. It has always been well maintained and serviced and comes with its original manual. The Silver Shadow II presented here has been recently fully work-shop inspected with all work needed carried out**. Important costly items such as the hydraulics and brakes have been fully serviced including new brake hoses, calipers serviced and system pressure tested and bled. The rear height control works as it should (testament to a well serviced example as many are often disconnected). It is ready to drive and enjoy. The odometer shows a low 73,500 and although this is not verifiable the mileage is commensurate with the condition (particularly when you look at the condition of the leather, carpets, brake pedal etc). It is very quiet and smooth on the road without any of the typical “thumps” and “rattles” typical of poor (or even averagely) maintained examples of this model. The interior looks close to perfect. The burgundy leather is in absolutely outstanding original condition with no cracks, tears nor fading and very supple and soft – true to its Connolly characteristics – and can be truly described as virtually flawless. The leather really has been lovingly preserved. The rich burgundy/red is truly a stunning combination with the 2 tone silver & black exterior combination. Back in the day, this colour Connolly was offered referred to as "House of Lords red" as it is very similar to the colour in the UK parliamentary upper house. The House of Commons was green and, of course by reason of name, was less often ordered! The burr walnut wood on the dash is original and in good condition. The wood on the door cappings were recently redone to “factory standard” by leading wood re-finisher; JC Wood. It was only redone because of a number of seatbelt chips in the 2 front door woods which detracted from the overall high standard of the interior (This is a typical problem where the seat belt buckle hits the door capping resulting in unsightly chips in the lacquer). The head lining is original and in good condition. The original black Wilton wool carpets with burgundy leather binding are in fantastic condition. Likewise is the black finishes to the dash and top-roll. The boot (trunk) carpet with the same black and burgundy binding theme is also in excellent condition. The body on this Shadow II is straight and the paint is shiny and lustrous. The car was repainted some 8 years ago and was a quality job. They are the original colours and the finish is consistent. The paint was recently cut & polished and looks stunning. When you look down the sides of the car, they are very straight and true. Having had a quality repaint, the body shows only the most minimal signs of typical Rolls-Royce cracking at the base of the “A” and “B” pillar - ALL original Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motor Cars from this era suffered this effect, where the infamous “lead wiping technique” was employed (lead was used to join panels instead of bondo and, given the characteristics of lead vs. steel, the lead would expand and contract at a different rate causing the paint surface to crack over time). On this example, this is quite minor. There are some minor chips and nicks from normal driving and as to be expected, but certainly nothing unsightly. These have all been professionally touched-up so from a driver/enthusiast point of view, the imperfections are acceptable and do not detract from the cars overall appearance. The paint finish overall is certainly shiny and crisp. The white-wall tyres are brand new (100% tread and still sporting the “knobblies” of a new tyre) and the hubcaps are excellent with no major imperfections in the stainless or painted trim rings. The pin-striping on the beauty rings are finished in the original hand-painted technique. All remaining bright-work is in good condition as is glass, electrics and instruments. All electrics have been checked right down to the smallest and insignificant dash and courtesy light. Under the bonnet, the presentation is amazing. It has not been precision detailed but simply kept clean and tidy throughout its life. You must take the time to look at the photos of the engine bay as its presentation is like that of only a 5-10 year old example. Simply stunning! The car has its original jack (still wrapped in its factory wax paper so never used) and correct tools and operating manual. A full set of 4, good condition burgundy "moutons" are available to the succesful buyer if interested. These are the factory Rolls-Royce lambswool rugs. The car is of very high standard and is an easy 8½ out of 10 rating. ~~ This stately Shadow II is an excellent condition representation of the marque that is ready to be driven and enjoyed. It makes for a brilliant driver for either everyday driving or sunny weekend enjoyment! ~~ ~~oo00oo~~ ~~ **Please note: I am a professional collector and experienced restorer and I have my own mechanical workshop with qualified craftsmen on hand. The car has been thoroughly prepared for sale and anything needing repair, attended to. As a passionate collector of the marque I take great pride and pleasure in passing on any of my cars to its next owner (“caretaker”). In so doing, once this Rolls-Royce is sold, I will put the car back thru my workshop to ensure that it is mechanically sound and all major features and functions are operating as described. This will be performed after the sale and before delivery – at NO CHARGE. Who else selling a Rolls-Royce on eBay does this?! This provides the buyer the peace of mind to purchase with complete confidence. ~~ *The car has a Missouri title where its collector owner lived for a few years before moving to Texas. It was only professionally stored in Missouri during that tenure and sparingly “maintenance driven”. Interesting information on the Silver Shadow II series The “II” mark provided considerable improvement over the earlier Silver Shadow. In 1977, the model was renamed the Silver Shadow II in recognition of several major changes, most notably rack and pinion steering, modifications to the front suspension which improved handling markedly, a dual exhaust along with the first-to-market fully automatic dual system air-conditioning system and a modernised and improved dash lay-out. The model represents the pinnacle in design features for the Silver Shadow series that started production in 1966. For many extra photos on this fine example go to the link below. For those who are new to my adverts, please note that as a serious collector of some 25 years, all my cars are truly described examples. I have my own private Rolls-Royce workshop (not open to the public but dedicated to my own cars) with trained Rolls-Royce craftsmen who are proficient in all aspects. As a team, we are dedicated to the preservation of the marque and as such, any car that leaves the stable is completely inspected and work-shopped to ensure mechanical and operational items are maintained appropriately. We adopt a “keep it original” mentality with pride and confidence, offering after sales technical support and assistance well beyond the sale. Because most of my cars are offered for the pleasures of driving enjoyment it is not always possible or practical to seek perfection (in the true sense of the word) but we do always uphold excellence in whatever we do. Our cars are by no means cheap priced cars but we like to think they are amongst the best. To this end, I firmly believe in the famous adage; “Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.” We hope you do to.” ~~oo00oo~~ This Rolls-Royce is part of my private collection. I am not a broker or main-stream/retail car dealer; I am a professional car collector of some 25 years with considerable experience and knowledge of Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motor Cars. I have a long standing reputation being associated with the marque which I take seriously. I am one of the leading Rolls-Royce restorers in the country. I take a lot of pride in my cars and have fun in collecting and restoring them. However, auctions are not a game so when you place a bid or offer, and you are the winning bidder, please understand you have entered a binding contract. You cannot bid and win the auction and expect not to meet the terms and conditions. Bidding and/or winning does not mean you are expecting me to “hold” the car until you have the opportunity to inspect it. Any inspection contemplated should be undertaken BEFORE you bid of make an offer. You are bidding and/or making offers to buy WITHOUT conditions. A $2000.00 deposit (non-refundable) will be required within 24 hours of the close of the auction and payable by PayPal. The balance of funds are required within 7 days of the close of the auction and must be provided by cashier’s check or bank wire. I cannot accept PayPal for the balance unless you are willing to meet the cost of transfer fees. Full payment must be made (and payments cleared) before the title and/or the vehicle is released. If all the funds are not received as indicated above, I reserve the right the keep the deposit and resell the vehicle by re-listing or to another bidder. I am happy to assist with shipping arrangements on a worldwide basis but the winning bidder takes full responsibility for pickup and/or shipping and at his cost. As a collector and experienced restorer of the marque, I make every effort to bring my cars to a very high standard but the very nature of these classic Rolls-Royces is such that it is not always possible to attend to every single item, or perhaps I may have inadvertently overlooked an item. Further, a feature or function that is working perfectly one moment, may decide to play-up the next. For this reason it is necessary for the following condition: The vehicle is being sold "as-is/where-is" with no warranty expressed, written or implied. Any descriptions or representations are made with reasonable judgment and all efforts are made to ensure fair assessment and accuracy but they are for descriptive and identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. The seller shall not be responsible for errors in description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein and makes no warranty in connection therewith. No allowance or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness, unforeseen imperfection, defect or damage. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have satisfied himself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgment solely. The seller shall and will make every reasonable effort to disclose any known defects at the buyer’s request prior to the close of the auction. Seller assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any oral statements about the vehicle. I can hold the vehicle up to 30 days while you arrange shipping but you must immediately insure it. I will not bear any responsibility for any costs including storage, transportation, or repair after the close of the auction. Also, you must remember that this is a classic +/-30 year old vehicle, and while it is up to you, I do not recommend that you just “hop in and drive it across the country”. At least, I have never done that. I have always professionally transported the cars from where I bought them to my home. PLEASE; IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ABIDE BY THESE TERMS, DO NOT BID. ~~oo00oo~~
