Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 I have a 1978 CJ-5. It’s awesome. 3” suspension lift, 1” body lift, full fiberglass body (means no rust…ever), full roll cage, straight six, four speed manual, Dana 300 T-Case. The only thing stock on this jeep is the frame and the axles. Everything else, as it needed replacing or work, it was swapped with what was the best bang for the buck. For example: stock motor blew, let’s put in a 258ci straight six. Done. While the engine’s out, what can we do? Ah, the ’92 head will give me 15 more HP over the stock head. Done! Headers? Why not? The carb is shot, the Motocraft 2100 will run almost inverted…let’s put that one in. This is a ’78, it is sweet. Couple things to know: it is not a 2010 Rubicon. Meaning it doesn’t ride like a Cadillac. It runs like a champ, is ready to go off road or commute to work, it needs nothing but gas. It does drips oil a bit, you can see the pavement in the pictures where I park it…not a gush, but a couple small drips. I didn’t clean off the undercarriage for the pictures, so you can see for yourself. A fiberglass tub means the diamond plate doesn’t hide rust like on so many others, it’s just there because it looks cool. The glove box on the dash is closed. The roll cage and the handle prevented it from opening, so I just pinned it down. The top is less than a year old. The rear window on the passenger side doesn’t clip down to the tub perfectly. If you’re in Colorado, I’m sure you could swing through Best Top to get another zip in window that is ½ an inch longer. The painless wiring harness installed works like a champ with zero issues. Cosmetically, you could spend a little time making it look pretty. Glass pack muffler; sounds great: deep low rumble and claps like a Harley when you gear down. There's no emergency brake; the compression is very strong and I park it on hills all the time and leave it in gear without every having it creep and inch. Short wheel base, lifted with oversized tires: it gets squirrely at 80 MPH. I drive it to work every day on the highway (C-470 @ 70 MPH)...once you get comfortable driving it, you don't notice; but the first time on the highway I was driving Ms. Daisy in the right hand lane. Odometer reads 128,000 right now. I drive it, so that will go up. The mileage is for the frame, not the engine. I do not have documented proof for how many miles are on the engine. It came out of a rollover, was bought online and should have about 60K on it. I have a hand throttle kit for it. It's not installed yet. I bought it for two reasons: 1) when you're off road and have to break while on a hill and get going again, you have another source of control for the throttle because I've got three pedals and only two feet; 2) it idles a little lean, so when it's cold, it requires constant attention to the throttle while the beast warms up. A manual throttle resolves both of those concerns as you can dynamically adjust any time. I have it new in the package, just not installed yet. This came stock in my CJ-3...not sure why this was ever done away with for vehicles designed to go off road? It does have the manual choke installed. Very nice on those ultra frozen mornings. Air Conditioning = removing the top. It comes with the bikini top in the photo's as well. Itimized details: The motor is a '84 258ci straight 6 4.0L head from a '92 Jeep for improved HP. 4 Speed Manual Tranny Clifford Headers Juice box TBI K&N filterWarn Hubs Motorcraft 2100 Carb New battery (Optima) Painless wiring harness Power SteeringHeater blower from a Chevy Blazer...some blog said it was the best, and when the heater core got replaced, so did the blower and shroud. Good strong clutch Rear main seal installed a couple years ago Hydraulic clutch linkage, Strong Clutch New brake lines Front disk brakes Rancho 9000 shocks T176 Transmission Dana300 Transfer case Spicer U-joints New front seats New Best Top Diamond plated dash Upgraded heater blower motor 3” Suspension Lift, 1" Body Lift 33X12.5" tires (some hair still left on them…that’s a quarter in the picture in the tread) Fold and tumble back seat Tow bar New windshield Full roll cage Nerf bars New hardware for hood, doors, headlight rings New tank and sending unit Tilt steering wheel Tuffy 12" console The tub, front clip and hood is fiberglass with Durabak bead liner inside and out. Outside is in great shape. A little flaking inside. Finally, why am I selling? If you look at the pictures, you can see my F-250 pulling my CJ-5 pulling my CJ-3a. In the garage is my boat and SUV…I’m selling the mustang on ebay now as well (link below). There’s not enough room/time for all the toys and it’s time to pay down some debt.
