Vehicle Detail
1955 THUNDERBIRD….THE RAREST OF ALL BIRDS ! Ford Thunderbird……………….one of the earliest collectibles of all cars. The two seat T-Bird has gained in popularity as the years have passed. Its original sales triumph over the Chevrolet Corvette was the result of clean styling, creature comforts and V8 refinement rather than the novel fiberglass construction and sports-car starkness. Ford’s conservative management headed by Robert S. McNamara decided a four-seat replacement was the key to greater success. Someone should have told him “If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it!” It was the beginning of the end for the Thunderbird. This was very bad news for Ford but great news for collectors! The 1955 two-seat Thunderbird became collectible almost immediately. Most surviving two-seaters have been spoken long ago. Acquiring one now usually requires a hefty bank account and a lot of patient searching. There are reasons for the two-seat popularity. Naming just a few……..outstanding styling, great looks, good performance, high-value appreciation, large club support, two-seats, open air mystique and awe-struck on-lookers. The very first production Thunderbird made, number one, was sold on January 17, 2009 at 7:23 p.m. for $660,000. Coincidentally the Bird offered here is the exact same color combination, raven black with snow white top and black/white interior. We took an already very nice car and made it a whole lot better. The previous owner found it necessary to sell his dream car. We were in the right place at the right time. We encourage you to look at this car! You will be impressed. If you choose not to do this, I have done my best to show it to you and offer our opinions. I believe it to be a wonderful automobile. This is the right car and a remarkable value. We replaced the front brakes, front wheel cylinders and front hoses – next we replaced the carburetor and fuel line. Total cost……$894.86 Receipts will be given to the new owner. The car body is razor straight. I found no dents and only one small imperfection which did not show up on camera. The exhaust still peeks through the rear bumper. Nothing in life is perfect but the chrome bumpers come very close. The wide white walls finalize the cars exterior – a MUST on this car. Add the red wheels and you really have something. The interior compliments the exterior color combination – black/white. There are no wear areas, tears or cracks. This includes the carpets, seats, door panels, headliner, sun visors, and dash. The entire interior is very good to excellent. Truly, a well cared for automobile. This is a power window, power seat and telescopic steering wheel automobile and they are in operating condition. The operation of the power seat is most interesting with its door to door bar and large worm gear. The interior is comfortable and stimulating. I removed the trunk mat in order for you to see just how solid and nice the floor is. The spare tire and wheel matches the four tires that are on the car. The 292 engine purrs like a kitten. There is plenty of power. This is a three-speed with overdrive transmission. The odometer reads 46,000 miles and is consistent with the reported condition of the car. However, this is a 55 year old classic and we are unable to make a mileage claim. The speedometer is not working. The whole engine compartment is clean, bright and shiny…….a pleasure to show. The car does what it supposed to do and re-emphasizes the real reason people buy classic cars, for recognition, credibility and investment…….a pleasure to show and drive! The sporty top off leaves a challenge for the elegant top on, let’s go to the club for dinner….LOOK……WHAT A CAR! There are 60 close up pictures for you to look at, study and enjoy. This is a golden opportunity to own the RAREST OF ALL BIRDS, a solid, safe increasing investment. This is an EXCEPTIONAL '55 T-bird! Place your bids to own a REAL dream car! MY THOUGHTS I did my best to present this vehicle to you just the way it is in real life. It will look great in the finest garage and compliment any collection. Don't miss your opportunity to own it. Soon these icons will only be remembered, they will be gone – held and treasured by just a few. Welcome to the WONDERFUL WORLD OF CLASSIC CARS.
