Vehicle Detail
1957 STUDEBAKER TRANSTAR MILD CUSTOM I have owned this truck since 1984, it was originally purchased at Smith Motors in Port Clinton, Ohio by Duffey's Cottages, Port Clinton, Ohio, who used it locally to serve their maintenance needs at their properties. A high school buddy of mine worked for Duffey's one summer and traded labor for the truck. During high school it was his senior project for vo-ag. After high school I acquire the truck and completed a total restoration. The running gear and frame, engine (Commander), No OD, cab, doors and truck bed are the only things left from the original truck. Everything else has been replaced with new or very good used. The truck was professionally painted 1988 Harley Davidson Candy Plum. All original factory seams have been welded shut on the cab and bed creating a smoother look. Everything else I have completed myself. Front Bumper and Splash Pan-NOS-Newman and Altman Front Grille-NOS-Swap Meet Front Running Lights and Turn Signals-NOS-Swap Meet- with purple lights, looks pretty cool at night Hood-NOS-Newman and Altman Left Front Fender-Texas-Swap Meet Right Front Fender-NOS-Newman and Altman (last one) Front windshield, rear windshield and vent glass assemblies-NOS, side door glass is original Doors are original with Classic Enterprise bottom skins Transtar emblems-NOS-Swap Meet Door Handles-NOS-Swap Meet Cab Corners were replace-custom formed Inner cab steps replaced with Classic Enterprise metal repops Temperature gauge and gas gauge-NOS-Newman Altman and Swap Meet, Speedometer is original Headliner-New-Loga Enterprises Seat has been redone, door panels to match Dash Pad-NOS-Swap Meet Fire Wall Liner-New-Loga Enterprises Carpeting on floor and inner cab steps, with matching floor mats Rear fenders are fiberglass, at the time you could not find a decent set of steel, I felt the fiberglass were better anyways so that is what I used Tailgate-Used, customized with drop cables and removable tailgate pins, chains have been eliminated and portal boat latches (chrome) have been utilized inside to keep the tailgate shut Carpeting has been installed to match the cab on the floor and side walls of the truck bed, carpeting is installed with velcro for ease of removal if it needs cleaned or dried, there is also a piece made for the tailgate so that when you wife slides the cooler into the back over the tailgate she doesn't scratch it Custom tempered smoke glass truck bed cover, four pieces, all removable, last piece of glass is locking for security Custom fit fiberglass rear valance with corvette tail lamps, this is actually for a 1993 Chevy but customized for my needs All new rubber and weatherstripping, along with windshield gaskets Gas tank was dropped and cleaned, not coating was used, it was fine New electric fuel pump-MADE IN USA-the clothes pins on the fuel line are a practical joke between my dad and I, I was having trouble with the fuel source, he thought it may be vapor lock so he told me to try the clothes pins, WHATEVER!, it was the fuel pump New plugs and wires with NOS spark plug boot kit Distributor was recent redone Radiator was redone probably 20 years ago, I have never had any troubles with overheating or running hot. 10" chrome rims with baby moon hubcaps on Cooper Cobra tires There are a couple of chips on the front bumper, one on the hood (the day I brought it home from the body shop a semi truck thru a stone, talk about being pissed), and a few chips on the front of the rear fenders (from the front tires throwing stones back) I have always wanted to add the gravel shields but never liked the way they looked on the truck Right rear turn signal is not working for some reason, I just haven't had a chance to troubleshoot Could probably used a new master cylinder, the truck hasn't been driven much lately, the brake fluid is evaporating or leaking out, brakes are to top of pedal but it seems like I am adding brake fluid Sometime during the resoration I lost the fan for the heater, I have never driven this truck in weather that I needed the heater or defrost so it was never a high priority Well, if I think of anything else I will post comments at a later date along with any other inquires. It is just time for something different. Thanks for looking and good luck with the bidding. D *****Quite a few of you have asked if I am interested in trades, the answer is no, other than I may be interested in a running, driving Studebaker Trailer Toter or the lighter GVW version Studebaker Semi + cash, send me photos, you deliver, I do not want another project, it would have to be mechanically sound needing only cosmetics, something that I can put into immediate service. Thanks, D
