Vehicle Detail

1992 Caprice Wagon. Mechanic's Special. No Reserve! This is my personal car, and I have owned it for 10 years. I bought it at 120,000 miles, and it now has 211,000 on it. Its gone from being my only car to a second car to a third car. It started stalling when hot a couple of months ago. My mechanic said it was the fuel pump. New fuel pump and guage sender unit are installed, but it stalls. Now it won't start. Mechanic says it is the Ignition Module, but that's $100 and we are done messing with it, and now it is too much to repair and keep up for how little we use it, so it has to go. The Good: -Ice Cold A/C converted to R-134a. -Engine was running smooth- no knocks or clicks- until now it stalls and then won't start. -Brand new fuel pump, sender, fuel and air filters- didn't solve the stalling problem. -Transmission is perfect. -Set of 4 New Michelin tires from Costco, about 10K on them. -Radiator replaced about a year ago. -ABS is working- often it doesn't on these cars. -5.0 Liter original engine. Gets 18mpg around town, 25 on the highway. -Towing package, receiver hitch, rear air shocks, trailer lighting & electric trailer brakes. -Rear brake lines are stainless and about two years old. -All glass is good. All wipers work, -Full tank of gas (over $50!) -Well-maintained car -Valid and current NYS inspection sticker. -Clear NY Title in my name. The Bad: -Car won't start cold about half of the time. When it does start, once it gets hot, it stalls at stop lights and won't start until it cools off. It isn't the fuel pump or filter, we just replaced them. My mechanic says its the ignition module in the distributor, but my wife says no more work on this car, it has to go. -Car needs a new Y-pipe and a muffler in the exhaust. -Electric windows don't work. Been that way since I got it. That's why it is important to have the A/C cold, which it is. -Rusted driver's rear fender at the bottom ahead of the bumper. That's the only rusty area on the body- the other side, the rockers, door bottoms, front fenders, windshield, roof, and hood are all good. Some surface rest on edge of hood where paint chipped off, but that's it. -driver's door dent. Doesn't affect door, which works and seals properly. No water leaking anywhere into this car. The Ugly: -What can I say, its an old car and we use it mostly for hauling and long trips. Its dirty. There are dings and scratches pretty much all over the car, but all the lights work. -The interior is intact, and not ripped anywhere, but it is scuffed and a littel dirty. The headliner fabric has been removed because it was sagging. The horn button is on the dash, because the steering wheel buttons don't work. Radio, cassette, power door locks, remote tailgate release, lighters, all working. -All the glass on the car is good with nothing broken, but there are scratches. -Car weeps a tiny bit of oil. Mechanic says this is a main seal, and all the Chevys do that. Has had this same oil drip since I got it. -Engine makes a puff of oil when it starts, but does not burn oil or smoke after that. Mechanic says it is worn lifter guides, and it has done that for about 20,000 miles. This is a well-maintained old car that needs someone who knows these big Chevys and can get it straightened out. Probably the ignition module- under $100 at Rock Auto. This car is not junk and not just a parts car. We kept it so long because it hauls heavy loads with ease, and it is the most comfortable highway cruiser I've ever had. I can drive this car to Chicago in 12 hours, and have done it many times. Its old and ugly, but if you replace the exhaust Y pipe, muffler and ignition module, its ready for years more service. This car probably will not start and need to be towed or taken on a flat bed. For the right person, this is a great deal. It costs about $100 to sell a car on ebay, and bidding starts on this car at $99 with no reserve. Car is sold as is with vaild title in my name. Please no scammers or kids playing on ebay. Cash only, no credit cards or Paypal on this vehicle. Please no check schemes or Nigerian wire transfers. You have 7 days to pay for the car, and 21 days to remove it.
