Vehicle Detail
This listing is for a 1969 Pontiac Le Mans 2 door hardtop "Z" code (Fremont, CA), Firebird 400 YT engine with matching #62 heads, Holley 4BBL carburetor, Offenhauser intake, Muncie 4 speed manual transmission, McLeod 10.5" racing clutch. The car runs strong and lights 'em up however, the car needs a complete restoration. Please read the description carefully and refer to the photos provided. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. ABOUT THE CAR: I have owned this California car since 1983/84. The car currently has a valid California non-op since 1996. The car was retired from daily use in 1988. It's original color was Mayfair Maize with Gold interior. The car was originally equipped with a 350 2bbl engine, Muncie 4 speed manual transmission, power steering, power assisted drum brakes, air conditioning, steel wheels w/stainless steel poverty caps. The car needs a complete interior and exterior restoration. Various parts are missing throughout the car. The car is currently in red primer. All body and trim panels need at least some degree of work/staightening and there is bondo everywhere (dents, dings, etc.). Some exterior rubber and interior upholstery is either deteriorated or chewed by rodents. The front windshield is cracked and the rear glass leaks water into the trunk via a rust hole beneath the trim. The trunk floor has heavy surface rust and is thin but has no holes. The frame is solid. The interior floor boards are perfect. The interior has surface rust from leaks and moisture. The dash is cracked and brittle. The four speed console is original to the car and is in excellent condition with no tears or holes. The center console lid and plastic insert however, are not in good condition. Various wires have been chewed by rodents and re-spliced over the years throughout the car. The hood, trunk lid and drivers door and front valance came from donor cars back in the 1980's and are not original to the car and needs work as well. The five Rally II wheels (JC coded) are not original to the car. The odometer currently shows 96,743 miles and I do not believe that it has ever been rolled over. The car has had maybe 1 or 2 thousand miles put on it since 1988 where it has spent most of the time between 1988-1995 in some form of dis-assembly. In 1994/95 the engine and heads were completely overhauled. In 1996 the car was driven 250 miles for storage at a property in northern California. During that time it was attacked inside and outside by the outside elements as well as the rodents in that area. The car was then towed back home in 2001 where it once again sat until 2008. ENGINE/TRANSMISSION: I acquired the 1969 400 YT engine and #62 large valve heads in 1988. They are a matching set and are from a 1969 Pontiac Firebird. The date codes on the heads are E059. The engine and heads were completely overhauled in 1994/95. The clutch is a 10.5" McLeod 3250lb (if memory serves) high performance racing clutch (overkill and hard on the linkage). The exhaust system consists of only Hedman headers directly to mufflers, no pipes. The Muncie 4 speed transmission and Hurst shifter are in excellent condition (no broken ears, etc.), are original to the car and was last overhauled in 1988. The rear axle is original to the car and has a 10 bolt differential. The front suspension, front springs, brakes and brake cylinders were completely overhauled in 1995. In August 2008, I again rebuilt the Holley 600cfm 4bbl carburetor (1980's), installed 4 new tires, installed new spark-plug wires, and got the car drivable once again. I then drove it hard on the worst pot-holed road I could find to loosen up the suspension and the brakes, hot rodded around the local streets and again, parked it. Again, the car needs a complete restoration. Note: The accelerator cable does not fit the carburetor linkage properly and needs attention!!! I strongly advise the use of a trailer when picking up the vehicle. I strongly advise against driving the car for obvious reasons. The car is available for inspection/local pick-up in California City, CA 93505 by appointment only. It is being sold as-is, where-is. A nonrefundable deposit of $500.00 payable via PayPal is required within 48 hours of the end of auction. Balance is due and payable in full and with cash within 7 days. The car will not be released until payment has been made in full. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. Seller reserves right to end auction early and without prior notice effectively canceling all bids. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Please note that I am currently not in the country.
