Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is a 1965 Honda CL77 305 Scrambler, red and silver. It has only 7564 miles on it. The VIN number is CL771013427 and the engine number is 1013466. It has the wiring harness ID tag dated 1965 which is a very accurate dating tool. This bike came out of Havre, Montana, moved to Bozeman and sat for a number of years. I acquired it and did the restoration. The top end was reworked including a new valve job, new sleeves, pistons, rings, and piston pins. Everything was inspected and checked for factory specifications. The bottom end side cases were opened up and inspected. The oil was clean and no abnormal signs of wear were found. The centrifugal oil filter was cleaned and reinstalled. The carbs were in great shape to begin with but cleaned and rebuilt with new parts. The air cleaners had brittle paper so they were stripped and rebuilt with new paper fabric from FRAM. The points were replaced with new ones and the carbs and points were adjusted using the recipe given by LM, a Honda 305 guru out of Texas and a member of Honda305.com. After the engine was reinstalled and ready to go, it fired up on the second kick and runs great. I rode the bike all summer and ironed out the bugs. I took it down to Dynojet R&D facility in Belgrade, MT and put it on the dyno. It was tuned about as good as you can get and showed 20 HP at the rear wheel. The print out of this will be included with the bike. I tore the bike down completely that winter (Picture a Montana winter.) and sent out all the painted parts to be color matched to the original colors and had them powder coated. It turned out beautifully. New tires were mounted and and the rest of the bike's parts were cleaned and detailed. All switches, lights and intricacies work. All of the chrome is original and in excellent condition; I will include the 1976 license plate that came with the bike. I will also include a bill of sale with a notarized title. The only things that are not original to the bike is the tank pads, badges, tires and speedo cable. I have two items of disclosure. One is a dent on the rear fender that you can see in one of the photos that has the seat off. I left it there because it is out of sight and I saw it as part of its character. The second is the title shows the bike as a 1966. This is because the first thing that I wanted to do is to have legal title to the bike before I put time, money and effort into it. I got it registered as a 1966 only later to learn that it is a 1965 as determined by the wiring harness tag, which, according to Bill Silvers, is a very accruate way to date one of these bikes. This is a great running bike and a real head turner. If I park it on the street, people will stop, just to see it. Most of them have their own stories about their Honda 305. This is a very beautiful piece of history. Buyer will be responsible for pick-up or shipping, $1000.00 deposit within 48 hours of auction end with full payment received within 5 days of auction end. Payment must clear before bike can be picked up or shipped. There is no warranty on this bike. Do not bid if you have no or negative feedback.
