That is what they say at classic car shows and auctions...this is one of those cars. This is a 1996 Chevrolet Caprice Classic with only 60,000 original miles. Recently traded by it's only senior citizen owner who is still driving into her 80s. This car is a real time capule and unmolested. Yes, the body has flaws, but repairing this car would have brought a sceptic eye and a fresh paint job would have ruined it's charm. The original window sticker identifies this Caprice as being finished in Dark Green-Gray Metallic, a rather rare color back in 96. The body does show the effects of 14 years, so expect to see some damage. There is a "softball sized" dent in the front fender, some cracked paint on the front bumper, a crease in the left rear door/ roof and some dents in the left quarter lower quarter panel. The paint has delaminated in the crevices of the deck lid and door jambs. This is the product of some less than high quality GM paint jobs back in the 1990s. We did send this car out for a detail just to see if the color would buff up... and it has. The interior is Medium Beige custom cloth and looks terrific. The upholstery is not stained, headliner is not drooping, door panels and carpets are very nice. The original floor mats still protect the carpets. All the power accessories work fine including the ice cold air conditioning and radio. Even the power antenna still raises and retracts fine. The prior owner did not smoke or have pets, so there are no bad odors. The lighter and ashtray have never been used. The engine is a small block Chevy 4.3 V8 that runs great. No smoke or knocks and starts on the 1st twist of the original key. The 4 speed automatic overdrive transmission shifts correctly through all the gears. The EPA figures for this Caprice are 18mpg city and 26 mpg highway. Your driving habits could effect these numbers. All four tires are matching Cooper whitewall (remember those?) radials mounted on the factory aluminum wheels. We replaced the tires due to the originals being dry rotted. The original spare is still in the trunk mounted on the 5th aluminum wheel with blue protectant. It has never been on the ground. We do not usually recondition our wholesale vehicles, but this one did get a set of front brake pads, oil/filter change, lube and a set of wiper blades. We also topped off all the fluids as needed. We have 2 sets of keys, 1 remote (for the aftermarket security system) and all the owners booklets along with the window sticker. These big Caprices are great road cars and are easy to repair with plenty of parts still available. Many younger folks turn them into low riders, customs and convert them to SS models. Ok, that is everything we know about the 96 Caprice. Lets be realistic, this car is 14 years old..it is NOT new and not perfect. So lets not pick it apart.
