Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is this very nice, Arizona kept 1980 Chevrolet Corvette with a 5.7 liter/350 cubic inch V-8, automatic transmission, T-tops, power steering, power brakes, power windows/door locks, and cruise control . This would be an excellent candidate for an easy restoration, or someone on a budget could clean it up, make a few repairs, and have a really affordable, daily driver Corvette. As the pictures show, the fiberglass body is in excellent shape with no cracks, splits or damage except for the usual broken lower front spoiler. As an Arizona car, the metal on this Corvette is rust-free, and the paint is even passable if you were on a tight budget- with the only major flaws being the tip of the nose, and the passengers side corner of the rear bumper. The interior seats need a good cleaning, but both have no rips or tears. Door panels are tired, but are intact, and could be sprayed to look new. Front carpet (black) looks good, back carpet (white) would either have to be replaced or sprayed black. Drivers armrest is missing, and both doors currently open only from the inside. Power windows work, power door locks do not. The previous owner lost the keys, and rather than hire a locksmith... decided to go Neandertal on the steering column. It currently starts with a screwdriver (ah, just like high school!). I personally would just replace the entire column with a nice used one (around $350), but you may be able to repair the one in it for less. Odometer reads 36,000, but does not work. Actual mileage is unknown. The motor and transmission both feel very strong and do not leak (or it's so little I can't notice), and as the pictures show, the engine bay is much cleaner than the interior! Everything seems unmolested and in good condition except for the carburator (stock original) which needs to be rebuilt- or used as a paperweight and replaced with a nice aftermarket carb. The car starts easily, has great compression, and does not smoke, but the carb staggers without starting fluid because of vacuum leaks, etc. The radiator has a leak in it, and needs to be repaired, or even cheaper is to buy a brand new one (around $200). The pop-up lights also have the typical lazy eye problem and need attention. Tires and wheels are in excellent shape. Exhaust system is in great shape with no leaks, and has a nice rumble to it. Overall, this is an excellent Corvette for simple restoration, or for someone with moderate mechanical skills who has always wanted to own a Vette but thought they couldn't afford it. the reserve is set very low, and please feel free to contact us with any questions... thanks for looking!
