For sale is our 1992 Chevrolet K2500 Silverado pickup, backed by an excellent running Cummins 4BT turbo diesel. Title is a clear Oregon title in our name without any brands, is in hand, and registration is good until 2012. The original diesel engine was a Chevrolet 6.5L turbo diesel, which was swapped out at 216k miles because of a cracked block due to the previous owner using a propane injection system. Before you read further: it will need a new front-left wheel bearing soon, as it is making a clicking sound. We suspected the noise was emanating from the front driveshaft which had a cracked boot, so we replaced it, only to realize that it was the wheel bearing. It is still drivable, but it is something that needs to be known. We removed the 4BT from the donor van at 155k for the swap. I believe we used the 700R4 (4L60) transmission, but I will have to double-check. We also installed a torque-convert lockup toggle so that the transmission will not slip at highway speeds, like a manual, and improve gas mileage. The 4BT: Fires up first revolution every time. It has plenty of power; more in fact than the 6.5L V8 it replaced. It is a non-intercooled, turbocharged version with maximum turbo pressure set at 28psi. There are turbo pressure and exhaust temperature gauges installed in the dash. We average about 24 to 25 mpg, with our personal best at 27mpg highway. Oil is changed regularly, with NAPA Gold filters and diesel-specific oil. Options: (Everything works unless noted.) The transfer case is stock, it has an inscription that reads "C-16119." Also, I forgot to mention that the exhaust system was pulled from a Ford Powerstroke diesel. Everything for the A/C is there, EXCEPT for the compressor. You'll need to find/fabricate a mounting bracket for one and find a compressor.
