I am the original owner and have driven this car and loved it everyday since I bought it new ten years ago. I have always had the car serviced by GM. I moved a year and a half ago and GM has now closed the local dealer near me. I tried a couple of local repair shops but none of them has been able to give me the reliable service I received from my GM Mr. Goodwrench dealer. Since my commute is often over two hours each way now I bought a new car and must sell my Firebird, I have nowhere to store it and can't really afford to keep her. 9000 miles ago I had the engine replaced by the GM dealer in Thousand Oaks, California. The engine has a warranty on it by GM. I have all the paperwork for this, the engine replacement cost $5500. This can also be verified by Silver Star Buick, the dealer that did the work for me. The transmission is a five-speed manual. I was told by the dealer that the clutch still has over 65% life left in it, there is no drag, noise or slipping. The tires and battery were replaced (with new) about six months ago (less than 2000 miles on them). I have all the papers and documentation for service and replacements. The car has four-wheel disc brakes, good looking alloy wheels and anti-lock brake system. The gray cloth interior is in good condition, no rips, tears or pet stains and it is not worn out looking or tattered in any way. It's actually been pretty rare anyone has ridden in the car with me. The mileage accumulated on it from me driving it for 2.5 hours a day on the freeway commuting to work. It's a hatchback and you can fit a surprising amount of groceries and items in the rear. The back seat folds down and makes the storage capacity quite large. The in-dash CD/AM/FM, stereo is the original factory system. It works fine and sounds good, the speakers are not blown or flappy sounding. The CD player intermittently skips. The volume knob on the stereo can also be intermittent but it does work and this stereo sounds good, I like the graphic equalizer on it. The exterior paint finish is still shiny and except for a few little dings (the usual from car doors in parking lots and small stones on the road) the body is in excellent condition. The motorized pop-up headlights work great. The vehicle passed smog tests for its current license and all the lights on it work (the headlights were both replaced in 2009). The air conditioning works great and blows cold. The windows and door locks all work fine. There are no cracks in the glass or broken windows. The dash board is not cracked or discolored. The seat belts all work fine. The windshield wipers work fine and the blades were replaced this year. In January of 2008 I had a new catalytic converter installed. In the spring of 2009 the "service engine" light came on so I took it in for service. Two engine sensors and two ignition coils were replaced. A month later the "service engine" light came on again. By this point my local GM dealer had closed so I took it to an independent shop my landlord recommended. The mechanic checked it out and reset the light. A week later it turned on again. I took it back to the shop and he told me there is nothing wrong with the car. He told me that the sensors can "carbon up" and become intermittent. He reset the computer again. A week or so later the light turned on again, later it turned off. Most of the time the light is on but the car runs great. Sometimes the light is on, sometimes it's off. I don't have the money or the time to keep going back to the repair shop and there is no GM repair center near me. The mileage on the odometer today is 155,222, by the time you buy the car there may be another 50 miles on it from people inspecting if for potential purchase. This is a really fun car to drive, a classic American sports car. You sit low to the road and it inspires confidence to drive it. The six cylinder engine has a lot of power and acceleration, it gets around 20 mpg from an average mix of driving (highway and city). The 15 gallon gas tank usually lasts me about 300 miles. I put a lot of money into this car but I really do love her, she's like an old friend and I hate to see her go. This would be a great car for a kid in high school, not too much power or lousy gas mileage, plenty of steel for crash safety and it's very stylish. Thanks for reading my ad, I wish you all the best.
