Vehicle Detail

1990 Volkswagen Fox GL 4 cylinders. 4 Speed manual. 107,000 miles A car purchased as a first car for my Son. It needed minor TLC but was left to sit in favor of another car he obtained from his Girlfriend’s Father. As honest a description as possible: Unusual VW (only imported into US for 2 years.) Engine runs strong and well (mechanical fuel injection). Clean cloth interior in such great shape that it looked barely used but for one new hole in the driver’s bolster where a mouse got in this past winter and chewed it for nesting material. L Tires in very good shape and have plenty of good tread left on them. The alloy wheels seem to be from a later model Passat. I would strip and polish them or paint them a hot color if I were keeping the car. Body in pretty good shape. A few very minor dings that can easily be filled in. Minor rust spots at bottom front corner of each door. Silver paint is faded and deserves a re-spraying. Frame and undercarriage in very good shape. Some rust but still pretty superficial. An electrical gremlin exists somewhere that prevents the battery from staying charged. The alternator was replaced and tested in the car. It puts out a charge but for some reason the battery still drains but only while running and not when parked. You can drive about an hour before the battery draining affects the running of the engine. I was told that a Chevy ‘one-wire’ alternator remedies the problem. There must be a leaking wheel cylinder as over the winter it lost brake fluid to a point that after topping it up, it must have trapped some air in the brake lines so it doesn’t stop very well. They worked fine when parked last fall. I may fix before auction ends if I have time. The brakes just need bleeding and to replace the suspect leaking part. The exhaust is solid but the kid who had it a short time before we bought it must have cored out some baffles in the muffler as it sounds a bit loud and tinny like so many of the small 4 cylinder cars that young drivers have. The car handles and corners tight and predictably on the road at all speeds and accelerates well for a small displacement 4 cylinder engine. This is a great and easy project for someone who wants an unusual, small wagon that’s great on gas and is easy to find reasonably priced parts for. Fixed up, this will serve you well and provide plenty of fun and practical driving. *Needs minor TLC. *Easy to work on. *Great on Gas. *3 Spare wheels. Put a pair of snow tires on two of em for the winter Note: These are standard wheels that are not like the nicer wheels on the car. The car is available for inspection. Any questions, please inquire. Happy bidding and we hope this goes to someone truly interested in making it the sharp car it deserves to be.
