Vehicle Detail
1957 Chevrolet 3124 Cameo Carrier 1/2 ton pickup truck. This is an original, garage kept, very dry, un-restored truck that has lived a very good Life, and is located in Los Angeles, California. If you have been searching for the "right", never modified 1957 Cameo, do not miss this opportunity. The reserve is set very realistically. You can see the layers of California registration stickers on the license plate in the photo, all of which I have positioned carefully, each year, during my ownership. The truck was re-painted the original colors of Bombay Ivory and Cardinal Red by the original owner in 1965 and I have photos of the process. I have owned and cherished this Cameo for 15 years. His name is Brutus. The original 235 c.i. six cylinder engine has never been apart with the exception of removal of the oil pan when I first found him, to remove any sludge that had built up over the years, and the yearly valve adjustment. He has a three speed column shift with factory Overdrive which allows you to cruise comfortably at 70-75 mph. if you choose to do so, and he has no problem keeping up with traffic. With Overdrive, you are not required to use the clutch to shift into second or third gear, as spelled out in the original owner’s manual. This option has also certainly contributed to the Life of the original engine along with the truck having been purchased new with the optional oil filter system. He still wears his original T-3 headlights. I treated Brutus to a new set of 4 N.O.S (new old stock) Cameo trim rings and center caps for Christmas about 10 years ago, and they still look great with no scratches or curb gouges. The clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing have been replaced and require no attention. The entire brake system has been rebuilt and the truck stops very nicely without the need for disc brakes. A folder of receipts of all work done is to be included with the sale of the truck. Brutus has been featured at length on TV in an episode of “My Classic Car” and is on the cover of Classic Trucks magazine with full story, as seen in the photos. He is also featured on the cover of the Chevrolet Pickup Buyer’s Guide from 1991, which is how I first discovered him. Simple perseverance and I was rewarded with the opportunity to be his new owner. The list of options on this truck are as follows: Windshield outer visor, cigarette lighter, passenger arm rest, dash mounted original (Guide) traffic light reflector, front bumper guards, hood rockets (1957 only), deluxe heater, AM radio (works), factory overdrive, foot operated windshield washer, auxiliary oil filter system, stainless door top rain reflectors, door handle finger guards, and behind seat parcel tray. The original red and white Cameo cloth interior remains in very good condition and the floor mat is also the original. The wood in the bed was replaced with Ash almost 20 years ago and has mellowed nicely. Brutus has very long (Overdrive) legs, runs like a Swiss watch warm or cold, and will start stone cold every time with a hair of choke and three squirts of gas. A VERY dependable, well running truck on correct bias ply tires with a gorgeous patina that will stop traffic and/or turn heads anywhere you go in him. Get in and go. Never been modified and comes with the legacy “Leave it alone”, as in far too nice to restore...Should you have less than 10 positive feedback, please inquire prior to bidding or your bid is subject to immediate cancellation. I believe my feedback speaks for itself, and I am selling Brutus with no warranty. Personal inspection of the Cameo is welcome in Los Angeles, CA. Zip code 91607. Please email me your phone number via "ask seller a question", if you would like to speak more in depth on the phone. I would very much like to see Brutus go to a caring new owner with no intent of restoration or modification as he has proven he is very capable of holding his own at any truck or car show. Good luck and Take Care, Eric
