SUMMARYThis is the TR6 British Leyland SHOULD have built!! You are bidding on an uprated 1974 Triumph TR6 with a recently completed four year, no-expense-spared frame-on restoration of a solid original car. Everything on this car was scrutinized, rebuilt by the best and/or replaced with new or NOS items. This car starts instantly with a turn of the key. It drives and handles like a dream, better than any stock TR6. And with the additional power and modern handling capabilities, it performs like the TR6 that British Leyland SHOULD have built but didn’t! Although uprated in all the performance and handling areas, every attempt was made to keep this car as stock-looking as possible. With the exception of the Imola red paint (deep red and far superior to the orangey ‘Pimento Red’ offered by Triumph), all the trim and interior was restored to original specifications to the maximum extent possible with a few stylish and practical upgrades. Fully detailed throughout, this classic sports car is ready to drive, show and enjoy. ENGINE and DRIVE TRAIN The original numbers-matching engine was removed and completely rebuilt by Coleman Performance of Stratford, Connecticut. With a 10:1 Compression Ratio it has been balanced and blueprinted. The engine is mated to a Toyota 5-Speed transmission with the conversion kit by Herman Van Den Akker. This transmission shifts so effortlessly up and down, you’ll swear you’re driving a 2010 luxury sports car instead of a British classic. Power to the rear wheels is through a balanced drive shaft and a completely rebuilt (to exact factory specifications) rear end. The following is a partial list of the main engine and drive train features: All internal engine components are new except the crankshaft which was re-ground and balanced ‘Good Parts’ 1:55 Roller Rockers and GP2 Cam Mallory Dual-Point Distributor Dual Stromberg Carbs, custom built and micro polished by ‘Jeff Palya Carburetor Restorations’ to match the engine’s power curve K & N Air Filters Rebuilt Harmonic Balancer by the ‘Damper Dudes’ in California New A/C style mechanical fuel pump and all new stainless steel fuel lines 12 Row Oil Cooler with thermostatic control and stainless braided hoses Ron Davis custom built radiator, 18 inch electric fan and new radiator shroud New High-torque Starter New Old Stock ANSA Exhaust System (the real thing and it sounds GREAT!) ‘Jet-Hot’ coated headers SUSPENSION and HANDLING To take maximum advantage of the engine performance and drive train, the suspension was also completely rebuilt with all new components. This car is extremely tight in the curves yet smooth on the road, a combination that was somewhat lacking in the original TR6s. The following is partial list of major suspension and handling upgrades: ‘Good Parts’ Uprated 7/8 inch Front Sway Bar Prothane Bushings throughout ‘Good Parts’ Adjustable Trailing Arm Assemblies, with camber and rear end alignment set to original specifications Rimmer Brothers rear shock conversion kit with Type 2 Brackets and new Spax adjustable gas shocks Front suspension completely rebuilt with Spax high performance shocks Four new Toyo Proxe tires BRAKES As quick as this car is and as well as it handles, it needed equivalent stopping power to assure safety on the road. The following is a partial list of braking system work: New Brake Booster New Master cylinder Rebuilt PDWA brake regulator, powder-coated to original gold color New stainless steel brake lines, custom bent to exact original specifications Calipers, rotors, pads, brake shoes, wheel cylinders, etc. replaced with all new high performance components EXTERIOR This car was stripped to bare metal and professionally primed and painted using DuPont Single Stage paint to assure a beautiful yet durable finish. The engine compartment, trunk and interior were also refinished as original. All the chrome (including seat levers, headlamp rims, badges. etc.) was rechromed by ‘NuChrome’ in Fall River, MA to show-quality specifications. The four original rims were trued and powder-coated (not painted) inside and out to the original warm Argent silver color. A new Crown convertible top was professionally installed on a rebuilt and refinished frame and fits like a glove with all new seals just in case you want to drive it in the rain. The rear valence is painted black as original with the correct finish and the front grill is new. A new Triplex windshield, rebuilt / refinished wiper motor, new wiper wheelbox kits and new wipers assures visibility without sacrificing originality. All badging has been restored or replaced with new to the original specs. This is truly a beautiful TR6 from all angles and will undoubtedly turn heads both on the road and at any British car show. INTERIOR and TRIM As mentioned, every attempt was made to keep the appearance of this TR6 as original as possible but still unique enough to stand out in the crowd. The interior was completely removed and all new components installed correctly duplicating the original interior with the exception of the contrasting piping and carpet which match the Imola exterior. The original seats were replaced with early (1970 – 1972) high-back seats which are MUCH more comfortable and provide better lateral restraint when cornering. The Nardi steering wheel was an afterthought but looks great with the wood dash, feels good in the hands and gives the interior that classic sports car look. The following is partial list of major interior work: Rebuilt seats with new foam and new correct seat materials professionally installed All new panels and carpets in the original style with contrasting piping New carpeting / padding cut to the original specs in deep red to match the Imola exterior Refinished original dash to original specs and finish. All new dash pads and all switches and controls checked and functional All gauges fully restored and tested by ‘Niosonger’ Period Jaguar Tachometer restored and recalibrated by ‘Niosonger’ to suit the Toyota 5-speed transmission. Beautiful Nardi wood steering wheel with new hub and horn button Complete pedal box restoration including powder coated pedal box and all new bushings and springs New trunk kit including panels, carpet and trunk board, all to original specs ELECTRICAL No worries about the “Prince of Darkness” here – both the front and rear wiring harnesses were replaced with new ones custom made in England. All light units were removed and restored including the tail light assemblies which have new sockets, bulbs, etc. New halogen headlights look awesome and provide much better visibility at night. All electrical components (wiper motor, heater and fan, switches and controls) were tested and rebuilt or replaced as required. Although there are never any guarantees, this TR6 is electrically the best it can be and should provide years of trouble free driving despite the famous Lucas ‘curse’. MISCELLANEOUS So much was done on this car during the restoration that the list is much longer than what I have provided. Some of the other key components that have been rebuilt or replaced are as follows: Restored original gas tank (inside and outside) guaranteed for life by Gas Tank Renu - USA Restored original charcoal canister and original dash support New windshield washer bottle and pump New batter tray liner All new UK made heater hoses New Borg & Beck clutch and pressure plate New Toyota hydraulic throwout bearing to suit the 5-speed transmission New clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder with all new hydraulic lines New high performance Moroso Blue-Max ignition wires SUMMARY Although I have tried to describe all the effort and features that have gone into this restoration and upgrade, I could never hope include them all. When I took on this project, money was no object as I wanted this TR6 to be the best it could be. I spent an incredible amount of time coordinating and completing this restoration, sourcing the best parts and restoration experts from around the world to ensure the finished quality that I wanted. I spent many nights and weekends doing much of the work myself with the help of fellow enthusiasts. Now that it is complete, I hate to part with it but new family obligations now take priority over my hobby! Suffice it to say that you could NEVER COME CLOSE to duplicating this TR6 for the reserve price I have set. And with the global economy heading the way it is, the costs for a restoration of this caliber will only increase dramatically in the future. I’m sure you have many questions about this TR6 which I will be happy to answer. I can be reached at 860-389-1999 ANYTIME between 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, EDT. The car is located in Southeastern Connecticut, halfway between Boston and New York (with easy access from Interstate Route 95) and can be seen by appointment. Please note that this TR6 is being advertised locally as well and is subject to prior sale. So don’t delay. If you want the best running, best handling and best looking TR6 for the money, this is the one you’ve been waiting for!On Jul-16-10 at 06:18:09 PDT, seller added the following information: I HAVE A COMPLETE SET OF UNDER-CARRIAGE AND CHASSIS PICTURE'S PLEASE E-MAIL ME IF YOU WOULD LIKE A SET OF THEM.
