Vehicle Detail
I won't go over all the specs, if your looking at this ad, your probably a Cadillac fan like myself, and you know it's a 1951 Cadillac with a 331 V8, etc. You just want the details about this car right here, so here it goes: 1951 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible. I purchased this car in New York about a year ago. It had been in a basement for 25+ years, after the previous owner parked it there to rebuild it, he passed away soon after. He had already started to take apart the front, and motor. I would say this car is 98% complete ( I don't have a matching set of hubcaps, and some bolts or small trim pieces may be missing). I DO have the front bumper and grille, and the engine parts that have been removed (Radiator, etc). I was really hoping to start on this car by now, but we have a new baby on the way, and the wife wants to stay home, so no more play $$$ (why can't I stay home?). Anyways, I've decided to let her go (the car, not the wife, although it was tempting but something called alimony keeps me in check). Here is what I do know. Odomoeter states 19,999, obviously not actual mileage. I don't know if the motor turns or not, it will need to be rebuilt regardless. This car was originally maroon, but was repainted white some time ago. The car has RUST. I am by no means an expert, heck, I don't even know how to weld or do body work, but I know she will need new floors, trunk, rockers, fenders etc (even though you can not see it in the pictures, the rust damage on the left side between the drivers door and rear tire, shows the same damage on the passenger side, it's too hard to get a picture on that side) . She has 2 flat tires (which I will have the tubes replaced so she rolls better). She does have a good parking brake. The windows are Hydraulic, and one is stuck in the "UP" position, and the other 3 are down. They are there, I don't know what kind of condition, as I don't know how to get them back up. The convertible top parts appear to be in great condition and they are all there (including stainless snap trim). Unfortunately, the top was dry rotted, and didn't survive the trip from New York to Tampa. I've never heard the car run (it's not even together), and I've never tried to connect the battery to her, so i don't know if radio or clock or lights work. This car is at my house, but you are welcome to arrange an inspection. Feel free to contact me with additional questions, requests, etc. I tell it as it is. If this Cadillac seems to need too much work for you, there are several other 1950-53 Cadillac Convertibles for $75,000-85,000 on eBay. I will also offer a 1962 Cadillac 390 and hydramatic (both probably need a rebuild) for an additional $400 if the buyer wants it. I was going to bore and stroke the 331 to 390, but it has other usable parts as well. I might be able to deliver in Floirda or Georgia, but no promises. I have never shipped overseas, but the car has no top, and the windows are down, so it's not a great idea (unless you have a container and an exporter willing to take care of all the details). She has a clean Florida Title in my name. Regardless, the car must be paid in full (checks cleared, etc) before she leaves my possesion. Let's face it, she needs some TLC. I feel my reserve is really reasonable. I do have this for sale locally, so I reserve the right to pull the auction at any time.On Jul-09-10 at 13:52:03 PDT, seller added the following information: Here are some answers to some questions (updated 7/9/2010): As far as previous repairs, it is obvious that the front floor has been replaced once before (and not very well either, you can see this in the pictures). There also appears to be a little bit of "damage repair" at the headlights, not sure if accident or rust related, but only goes back about 1 inch. I have both headlights and buckets. I only found one headlight trim ring. I tried to turn the motor, and she didn't budge, didn't want to damage anything (mainly, my hand), so I'd say she doesn't turn over. I will have some friends come over and look at the motor and update this if it does turn over. I did find a brand new water pump, both side skirts, but no carb yet. I will look more this weekend, as I have parts in the shed as well. As I looked under the car (really the first time since I got her), I noticed that the inner rockers are gone, rusted away, and non-existent on both sides. Odd, being that the doors close better than my 1953 Coupe (which is rust-free). I tried to take pictures from underneath, but I don't have a lift, so pictures don't come out at all. I am NOT a good judge of rust, this is only my second antique car, and I work on computers for a living. Reserve is well under $10,000. There is no "buy it now", and I'm no longer selling it locally. I've decided to let it go to highest bidder that meets the reserve. I was planning on buying a Coupe donor car like this (which is still available I think): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350370204447&viewitem=On Jul-09-10 at 14:03:57 PDT, seller added the following information: update #2: I have made arrangements with a local Hot Rod/Kustom/Body Shop to come out by early next week to give the car a once over, and make sure that I describe the car and it's condition accurately. On Jul-11-10 at 12:08:45 PDT, seller added the following information: update #3 (7/11/2010): apparently, ebay will not let me add more pictures, so I have included the links! I pulled out all the 'loose' parts. I found the second Headlight trim piece, as well as the Carburetor. Picture #1 is the Front Bumper, Grill, headlight buckets and trim, as well as a 1951 rear dagmar. I had somebody point out that the rear bumper currently has 1953 dagmars, it's a 1951 bumper (it does not have the 1953 exhuast cutouts). I only have ONE 1951 dagmar. The hood mascot is there as well (can't see it in picture, it's hiding behind the grill). click for picture: http://hotrodcaddy.com/images/10.jpg Picture #2 is the loose enigne parts. One of the water pumps is brand new, the fuel pump appears to be refurbished (and the glass bowl is in excellent condition), radiator, 4 packages of gaskets, pulleys, fan, carburetor, oil filter, and oil bath air filter.
