Vehicle Detail
1974 Mercedes Benz, 280C. Classic coupe in very well kept driving condition. I've owned three of these models, and this is the best one of the three. Brakes are strong. Engine is strong and runs and drives well, good pick up and speed. Carburetor needs some adjusting and I'll try to have it done this week. Body is straight and paint is solid and in great condition with excellent gloss. It had a repaint several years ago. Classic lines and trim are all there, All Chrome is very impressive, obvious car was garaged kept for all of it's life. NO RUST on vehicle except in the trunk (see below and pic); and there are a couple of small rust bubbles on the trunk lid, but nothing on the frame, or floor pans. Looks like water had leaked into the trunk and stayed under the carpet and formed rust. I wirebrushed the trunk and sprayed it with rubber undercoating. All rubber moulding, bumper parts and weatherstripping are in good condition. Tires are good with classic Mercedes Hub Caps that are not beat up. INTERIOR: overall, very nice and well cared for. Usual cracks in the dash are the only negatives here. seats have no rips and appear to have been re-upholstered, center console intact. carpet has no holes or rips. All lights work, AC comes on (comressor too) but not really blowing cold. original radio is not working, signals, horn and wiper are all good. Speedometer and odometer work. Windows work, but a little slow. Engine was powerwashed and detailed ( I noticed the hood insulation is gone), Interior was detailed as well. here are the flaws: the door side pockets (plastic) are off; (I do have the driver's one in the trunk); there are several cracks in the dash; dash center speaker grille is missing; the varnish is peeling on the wood (common); has lighter but not the right size (but it plugs the hole); the plastic housing/console for the window switches is not the original one (fabricated); rear driver's side window is not working (don't know if it's just the switch); moulding pieces are missing on the top of the driver's door and on driver's column/windshield; the lens on the front parking light (pas) has a crack; there is a ding on the hood (driver's side); rust hole in the trunk size of a dime; rear seats have rips on the top and fabric is "loose"; rear bumper has one scratch on the chrome; there is no carpet in the trunk; interior lights are not working or out. NO SMOG REQUIRED EVER in California. Currently Registered through Sept. 2010. A nice addition to any collection, for that vintage look or to bring back memories. Happy bidding. N.A.D.A. This car is totally drivable, but you assume full responsibility if you want to drive her a long distance. I am selling it as is. These cars are bought at a local benefit sale where the proceeds go to good causes. Most cars come from affluent communities where the owner's buy a new vehicle and donate there "old" one for a tax write off. I've been buying cars at charity events for years and everyone makes out. I try to be as honest as possible about these cars and list what I know, but I'm not a mechanic or body repair person. I have done this for years and everyone has ben happy with the cars. I HAVE 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK, mostly from cars on ebay. If you really need to call me, go ahead, but I've described it as best as I can: 818-272-1112 God bless and hope you love your car purchase. **NOTE** If you have "0" Feedback, please email me first to bid, I've had too many flakes in the past.
