Vehicle Detail
For Sale: My beloved Mercedes 300TE W124 with M103 straight six bullet proof motor. I am unexpectedly returning home to the UK in a few months so I have to give up this car. I have owned this car for a year and purchased it on Ebay before I ever arrived here in the US. Although the car has its log book it has precious few entries in it for servicing. Despite this, the car was in all respects excellent, except for one critical area, the transmission was dying. I put up with this for six months and then decided to have a new re- manufactured transmission fitted by 'factory transmissions' based in Sante, San Diego. They did a great job and now this car is running as it should. The car is in overall excellent condition for its year and all systems work as they should. Electric seats, windows air-con, all working to spec with no faults. Interior excellent, a pleasant a comfortable environment to be in for long journeys. I have fitted a new radio/ cassette player that also includes an mp3 socket. Its a nice radio and is in keeping with the car age and style Mechanically very good. It has been fully serviced and I have invested in a new MAS system. Future work I had planned was to deal with a tiny leak from the timing cover. Its not an issue and is a common complaint on this model. Quoted $300 to change gasket. Rear tires will need replacing in another 5000 miles. The sun roof is not functioning and I suspect an electrical fault . I have never investigated this as it was not a priority for me. You will also note small area of sun damage to the rear paintwork (see pic). I paid $3000 when I purchased and have since spent a further $1000 on servicing and $2,500 on the transmission. I will set the reserve at $2,500 and am entirely happy that this is a fair start price for such a delightful and well performing car. With regular and timely maintenance I would expect this car to go on for another 100,000 plus. Cars are simply not made this way anymore! I do hope he finds a good home? Thank You.
