Vehicle Detail

Unusual history: this was a Shriner drill team bike, stored under cover all its life, meticulously maintained. It appears to have never spent a day in the sun or a night in the rain. I purchased from the Shriner who bought when the team liquidated their 18 Silverwings and bought Sportsters (!) This one shows it's number 8 on the back of the box, if you get it in the light just right. The paint and pinstriping are truly like new, the chrome is perfect, the windshield is crystal clear, and the aluminum shield under it is not wavy like every other one of these that you have seen. Even the lettering on the dash lights and handle controls is like new, and the plastic kill switch even looks new, not faded to pink like every other one of these bikes I've ever seen. The hardware on the hard bags is perfect, and you know how much rust all the others have. The rear brake does not squeak like most of them, and the suspension is absolutely silent, no creaking or squeaking. The original fairing-mounted mirrors stay put. The interchangeable rear seat has a 'sissy bar' seat. The cowl on it looks awful in the picture, but it's actually perfect, that must have been dust hanging on it from static electricity. It is not a 'time capsule', because that would get you a bike with no miles, but crusty carburetors and cracked tires. This one has new Pirellis, and it starts, idles, runs, stops, and handles perfectly. The parade usage was abusive in one predictable area: the clutch, which the previous owner had to replace. In doing that, he left behind the only flaw I can find, that being a very slight leak, which I think is coming from the clutch operator arm seal, but it only makes one or two drops in a day. As is the case with other sellers, I won't ship it, but my one experience with shipping was good. I had the gas down to minimum but not empty, other fluids full, I took it to a terminal, they lashed it down to a skid and put a box over it, and although it had to go through two terminals between here and Nebraska, it came through perfect. STI, Sterling was their name. On Jun-26-10 at 11:39:15 PDT, seller added the following information: I just found out my photo of the rear seat did not take, and I don't have it with me at present. It is perfect in appearance and as stated originally it has a padded sissy bar attached to it. Also, I added the VIN. On Jun-26-10 at 12:16:28 PDT, seller added the following information: PS forgot to say, the 'reserve' is considerably lower than the 'buy it now'. I don't know how other sellers use it, but I'm not a sophisticated eBayer, I never used the 'buy it now' before. I see it as a way for a motivated buyer to take it down pre-emptively, and cut out other bidders who might otherwise engage in bidding competition (how I wish!!) On Jun-29-10 at 18:27:42 PDT, seller added the following information: BULLETIN: I was too hasty in saying the clutch operator lever leaked. Yesterday I cleaned up the front of the engine, tightened bolts around the clutch cover and front engine cover, the filter and oil plug, rode it around some, and today I don't see any drip whatsoever. The oil plug gasket doesn't look right, I'm going to replace it, and I'll watch it for any drip tonight. Also: a fabric cover marked OSI goes with the bike. It's faded, but will protect the bike, if you want it..On Jun-30-10 at 14:40:18 PDT, seller added the following information: BULLETIN #2, I added the photo of the rear seat, I finally got my tech problems fixed. On Jun-30-10 at 23:50:14 PDT, seller added the following information: REDUCED RESERVE!!!. THIS BKE IS SERIOUSLY FOR SALE, I DIDN'T POST IT FOR A . MY INDICATIONS OF LEAKS WERE OVERSTATED, I DON'T REALLY KNOW WHY THERE WAS SOME MESS ON THE FRONT UPPER PART OF THE ENGINE BUT IT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN A PRIOR MESS THAT RAN DOWN, IT HAS STOPPED. I HAVEN'T HAD IT LONG AND I JUST WANTED TO BE FRANK. WHO REALLY EXPECTS A 28 YR OLD BIKE TO HAVE NO FLAW WHATSOEVER.
