This auction is for a 79 400 4 spd Special Edition Trans Am. It has 38,000 miles and is #s matching throughout. I'm the 3rd owner. The car is 100% rust free. It has always been garaged and has never been smoked in. Paperwork includes the original window sticker, manuals and the build sheet showing the Pontiac 400 with 4 spd, WS6 suspension and the special Edition package. It is for sale elsewhere so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Body : The car has had some areas touched up early in it's life and these areas are showing cracks and checking. Both previous owners said the car had never had any paint work but it definitely has. The car was built at the California plant and in 79 there were a lot of paint issues. My guess is the car had some bad areas when new and the dealer spotted them before delivering the car. There are also various nicks and scratches and some of the stripes are showing age. With new paint the car would be show quality. Otherwise it can be driven and enjoyed as is. The spoilers are all in great shape with no cracks or damage. Bumpers and grills are still very nice. The TTops are nice including the anodizing on the TTop frames. The trunk is clean with the original mat, jack pieces and spare all in place. Interior : The car has a beautiful interior. The seats show no wear, the dash, carpet, headliner, steering wheel and trim pieces are all in excellent condition. The door panels not only have no wear but the chrome beading is still looking nearly new which is unusual for these cars. There is no dried or chaulky areas anywhere in the interior. Never smoked in so there are no burns anywhere. All the accessories work including the clock. The air conditioner belt is off in the pictures due to the clutch being bad but this has since been repaired and the AC works great. The car is factory optioned with the AM/FM CB radio and power antenna. The antenna has been replaced and works perfect but one couldn't be found with the CB coil so the CB doesn't work. The radio however works perfectly. The original antenna is included. The glass is all original and in great shape. Drivetrain : The car is complete #s matching from carburetor to rear. The only think changed is the water pump and the exhaust. The original water pump is included. The exhaust was replaced with a set of headers feeding two separate catalytic converters and two mufflers for true dual exhaust performance. The original exhaust manifolds are included. I've never cared much for headers but these are very nice pieces. They tuck up under the car better than any I've ever seen avoiding clearance problems seen with most headers. The are tight and have no exhaust leaks at all. The exhaust sounds great. Tires are 225/60/15 Radial TAs. The car had the wrong wheels when I got it so I installed a set of the new correct reproduction 8" WS6 wheels. Another low mileage 79 I have has the 8" wheels and I can't tell them apart. They are excellent wheels. The brakes are great and the suspension and steering are very tight. The engine is runs flawlessly, the transmission works perfectly and the shifter is smooth and tight. Overall the car drives like it has even lower miles than are actually on it. This is an exceptional car that can be driven and enjoyed right away or repainted to be show quality. I haven't driven a nicer 79 TA in many years, it runs and drives exceptionally well. It has lots of paperwork and great history. The only original parts that have been replaced are still included with the car. It's rare to find such an original, low mileage Special Edition with the 400 4 spd WS6 combination.
