Vehicle Detail

This is a 1968 Jaguar XKE roadster that was privately owned since 1970. The miles are 15,693 and correct as the car has been in storage since 1978 that after the top was cut twice in attempts to steal the car when the owner decided to just put it away. The car was stored in a heated, dry garage that was basically inside the lower level of the house. The car is very original and nothing has been restored. We just cleaned up the best possible way in order for it to maintain its originality and patina. The interior is original with only very slight wear on the driver’s seat as detailed, the carpet is original and in good condition, the top has been replaced many years ago but is in great condition although some of the rubber seals have deteriorated. The body color is Dark Green Opalescent and all we did was touch up a few stone chips and buff out the existing finish with great results. The body chrome is in good condition and fits properly. The engine and engine bay parts are all original and the engine number matches the data tag. The carburetors have received a top end service which included new bladders and a new fuel feed rubber hose replacing the white plastic original hose which was brittle. The oil and filter were changed, fuel tank drained and cleaned with new fuel filter, new spark plugs, points and condenser, radiator fluid and brake fluid were also changed. We left the spark plug wires alone as they appeared to be original, but they work fine. The engine starts instantly, runs smoothly and quietly with no odd noises, accelerates strong with no smoke and a hot compression test reveals that all cylinders are equal and up to specification. The car was left to idle for over 2 hours on a 90 degree day, the fans cycled properly with no signs of overheating. The hot oil pressure was 25 PSI at idle and 40 PSI at 3,000 RPM. The lower radiator hose has been changed at one point but the others are original with the original Cheney clamps still in place. The exhaust system is in good sound condition and appears to be original. We installed a new battery and a positive cable, the original positive cable comes with the car and may be able to be reused. The brakes are firm and work properly. The wheels are original and in great condition with new tires installed. The spare tire is original and comes with the jack and tool kit. The body is very good with no rust in the foot wells or floor/boot/bonnet areas. All the splash shields are in place along with the heat shields which normally get thrown out. Out of 72,516 Jaguar XKE’s produced there were only 2,479, 1968 series 1½ LHD cars produced which makes this a very desirable and historically significant car to own and drive in it’s original condition! We can assist our over sea's buyers with transport anywhere in the world. On Jun-17-10 at 13:55:18 PDT, seller added the following information: Look us up at www.coolcatz.com for other cars or services. Cheers and happy bidding! On Jun-21-10 at 06:10:26 PDT, seller added the following information: Thank you all bidders and watchers. It is not too often a low mileage unmolested car such as this one comes up for sale. I have been overwhelmed by the amount of questions such as; what is the difference between series 1 and series 1½ that makes this car so rare and valuable? The 1968 model year was a transition year for the XKE with most modifications being cosmetic in nature. In order for Jaguar to comply with various government regulations the headlights were no longer allowed to be covered. The 1968 used the same bonnet/bumpers/trim as the 1967 except the lens cover and trim ring were removed. The chrome surround, headlight location and pan enclosure are unique to this year and totally changed for 1969. The interior replaced the center dash with rocker switches versus toggle switches and the arm rests on the door panels were removed. The engine received a 2 carb set up versus the 3 carb which was infinitely easier to synchronize and actually ran equally if not better than the 3 carb set up. The radiator was larger with 2 cooling fans and shroud that cured the overheating problems that the series 1 cars were plagued by. Those are the major changes for 1968 that only pertain to the 1968 making this transition year a very desirable car since it is was made for less than 1 year. Next is “what is your buy it now price?” This car is up for auction to the highest bidder and there is no “buy it now price.” Next is “what is your reserve price?” We are not expecting to establish a new world’s record and are only protecting from selling too low. This car is for sale at a reasonable reserve that is currently very close to being met. Next is "can you ship overseas?" We have shipped many cars all over the world and can arrange delivery to your door if needed. We are very familiar with shipping documentation and various shipping methods and can advise the cost. We can make these arrangements for you or work with your shipping company. Once again, thank you all for your interest and I hope this answers most of your repeated questions. Happy bidding and congratulations in advance to the victorious new owner!!! On Jun-23-10 at 06:41:21 PDT, seller added the following information: Thank you for your bid Williambentlyboy the reserve has now been met ! This car is going to go to a new home.
