I just got off the phone with very helpful source in Canada and BMW in Europe. They say BMW didn't make a DAKAR in 1981. The DAKAR wasn't built until 1984. This bike has a DAKAR gas tank on it but is not the original DAKAR. It is an authentic BMW R80GS but just not the DAKAR model. Call with any questions.
