Vehicle Detail
1970 Chevelle SS396 two door hard top. This is a true Super Sport 396 with a factory build sheet. It is an original L34/M40 car. Option L34 is the 396 cubic inch (350 horse) engine and option M40 is a turbo-hydramatic 400 transmission. The engine and transmission in the car are not original. Currently, the car has a 1973 454 engine with a Turbo 400 transmission from a 1969 SS396. (The breather decal says 396, but it is definitely a 454.) The engine starts right up and does not smoke. Needs tune-up. I believe the 12 bolt rear end housing to be original. It was born with 3.31 gears, but now has a 4.10 posi. In 1970, this car was purchased new near Augusta, Georgia. The car was built in Atlanta during the 3rd week of February, 1970. I believe this has been a southern car all its life The original color code is 78 (Maroon or more commonly known as Black Cherry). This car did not have a vinyl top when new. The color on the car now is a little lighter than the original color. The interior has black bucket seats with a console. The console is not cracked and is in very good condition. The car has a good Flowmaster exhaust system. The floor pans are in good condition but the trunk pan needs work (or replacement.). The car has minor rust in the usual places - lower fenders and quarters. The rocker panels look good. This car does not need any exterior body panels to be replaced. You can work with what is there and keep the original seams...as I believe this car has all of its original sheet metal. Please see the Photobucket link for close ups of the car. I have intentionally shown the problem areas in the images. The car does need some body work and weatherstrips, but looks pretty good as is. The interior is descent, no bad rips or tears. Carpet is OK. Headliner is OK but not original. There is definitely more good than bad on this car. This car also still has the factory original two-piece front rotors which is unusual for a car of this age. See this PhotoBucket link: http://s917.photobucket.com/albums/ad18/jhtarpley/1970%20Chevelle%20SS396/ If this link does not work, copy and paste it into your browser. I have replaced many parts on this car. A partial list of new parts are: tires, battery, GM rear sway bar, 4 core radiator, belts, trunk weatherstrip, package tray, left outside mirror, shifter, hood hinge springs, shifter cable, Quadra jet carburetor sitting on a correct style factory intake, battery tray, fuel pump, u-joints, wheel opening moldings, transmission filter and fluid, and many other items. This car has great potential. I have the original build sheet still attached to the original driver's door panel. The driver's door panel on the car now is a replacement. Please email me if you have questions. If you want to speak to me by phone, call 478-290-1039. If no answer, please leave a message and I will return the call. I have a clear Georgia title to this car in my name. I will transfer the title along with a bill of sale and the factory build sheet to the winning bidder. The reserve is set much lower than the value of this car. The winning bidder should pay a $250 deposit upon auction close. The balance should be paid in cash when you pick up the car. Car must be paid for within 7 days. I can hold the car in inside storage for longer if needed providing I have been paid. If you need other arrangements (or if you need more time), I will work with you. If you want a carrier to pick up this car for you, I will work with you and your carrier to make the car available and help to get it loaded. Email or call me...
