Vehicle Detail
1990 Miata, red, with BBR turbo professionally installed (5.5 lbs boost). 43,667 original miles. The car is very clean for its age since it was only ever driven in the summer and stored in winters. It's a real gem of a car, and you'd be hard pressed to find a first year Miata with lower mileage. The BBR turbo kit was selected by the original owner because it was apparently a Mazda factory option for the Miata in the UK and it did not void the original warranty. The modest 5.5 lbs of boost the turbo adds passes through a small intercooler, and the system is managed by BBR's add-on electronics module. It also has an oil cooler. I purchased the car 10 years ago from the original owner with about 35,000 miles on it, and it's been in storage year-round for the last 7 years. I just installed a new battery this week, and the car runs fine. Original factory hardtop and softtop are included, but the softtop is probably due to be replaced after 20 years. (It's not terrible, but I wouldn't count on it for much longer.) After purchasing the car 10 years ago, I replaced the shocks with orange KYG AGX adjustables, but kept the stock springs. (See below re: unused racing springs included.) I also upgraded to an ACT clutch, a larger capacity Koyo radiator, and Cibie headlights, and Falken Azenis tires are on the stock rims. The Azenis were done in '03 and look close to new. I also added a Canon rear subframe brace. I never upgraded the original factory exhaust (that was the lone part of the BBR kit that was never installed). Though the factory exhaust is in fine shape, there's no doubt that the performance of the car would be bettered with a high flow exhaust - I just never got around to it myself. All the upgrades I put on the car have fairly little wear on them since I drove the car less than 10,000 miles in the 10 years I've owned it. The car has some minor dents and dings that I have tried to capture in the photos, but overall the body is in very good shape for a 20 year old car. The two most notable cosmetic issues on the body are some sagging in the nose that has caused the paint to crack (see photo), and there is a dent and small scrape in the rear driver's side fender between the rear wheel and the door (see picture). Power windows, but the driver's side doesn't work although it can be raised and lowered manually and stays in place pretty well (the window motor turns when you hit the switch, so I suspect it's just the cable). Also, the headlights are stuck in the up position, but the bulbs turn off and on normally. I'd planned to attend to these details before selling the car, but, at this point, I am content to let someone else run down these minor issues. ALSO INCLUDED: 4 extra 15" Centra Aluminum wheels with Toyo tires on each wheel AND 4 never-installed Eibach Miata springs. Use as you like; the wheels probably have pretty good resale value. This car looks very good, runs well and has been a lot of fun to own. Buyer to arrange shippping from storage in Chicago suburbs to their destination, and a $500 deposit is due from buyer within 24 hours of completion of the auction. I will be traveling for part of the time the car is up for auction, so call me if your question is urgent: 224 848 2094. Thanks for looking. On Jun-06-10 at 13:48:46 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE 6/6/10: There are several other items that the car has which I neglected to include in the original description. Most of these would be apparent to a keen eye from my photos, but here it is in English: The car has: a short-throw shifter for faster shifts, Magnecor sparkplug wires, a shock tower brace, and an aftermarket horn that's louder than stock and sounds like a 70s GM horn in timbre.
