Vehicle Detail
Even though my collection consists of mostly cars from the 1960's and early 70's, my appreciation for originality and authentic vintage appearance drew me to this Pickup immediately. She's a solid California and Utah truck that underwent a light restoration several years ago. Very few owners in her 60 year life and a prior owner had possession for over 20 years. They are just so hard to find like this anymore considering all of the customizing that's being done to most of these 40's and 50's Pickups. It was refreshing and heartwarming to see this truck exactly how she would have looked back in the day. This truck just sits ignored in the garage and my personal collection is busting at the seams so some members need new homes. This truck deserves a good one. Complete details and description below. The body is impressively straight and the paint is very nice. My exploration of the truck has discovered no body rust issues and no abuses of bondo or other fillers. The undersides are also very dry and solid with only one small patch panel on the drivers floor (close-up photo provided). Even the wood planks under the bed are excellent. The bumpers, running boards, grille area, glass, stainless trim moldings and emblems are extremely nice. Minor paint chips and small blemishes can be found on close inspection (photos shown) but the truck shows and presents itself very well. More than deserving of all the compliments it receives. This is one of those vehicles that just seems to make everyone smile when I take her out. The interior has been tastefully redone. The insides were painted and correctly matched to the body color. The seat and headliner have been nicely done. The carpet was an after-thought and could have been done better in my opinion. Still nice but I would prefer the factory rubber matting which is available for these pickups. All gauges, speedometer, horn, radio and heater are functioning and I'm pretty confident that the wipers are working fine as well but I've never driven her in the rain so I can't be sure. The headlights and brake lights are working perfectly. The windows roll up and down smoothly. The interior is very clean and in great shape. Vehicles of this vintage are outside my window of interest and expertise. She seems mechanically sound. The flat head V8 has been upgraded to the higher horsepower Mercury engine. The motor runs and performs very well. Strong acceleration and good oil pressure warm and cold. I haven't noticed and leaks on my garage floor that are worth mentioning, just typical seapage. Updated to the more desireable 12 volt electrical system so the truck starts easily even after sitting untouched for extended periods. She never overheats. The 4 speed manual transmission is the factory non-synchro unit. I haven't quite mastered the double-clutching technique. I only get smooth shifts about half the time, sometimes less depending on my effort and patience level. Usually, I just grind between gears. The brakes stop the truck just fine but could stand to be bled. She steers surprisingly easy but with the era correct bias ply tires it's not exactly the smoothest or best handling ride and they get flat spots from sitting. Don't get me wrong, all 5 tires are near new and I drive the truck locally every now and then but I certainly wouldn't go cross-country. Radials were a wonderful invention. I'm almost 43 years old and I have often asked my father how he didn't kill us on the freeway in the family car with bias ply tires. His response: They drove fine. Yeah right, I say he was lucky! In any case, it's a fun truck to take here and there and has proven to be reliable. I will point out things worth noting in some of the upcoming photos. All of my eBay experiences have been enjoyable as I've sold members of my collection. I've dealt with some exceptional people and I'm grateful for the kind feedback and comments I've received. My opinions have guided me well and I stand behind them but please keep in mind that these are my personal opinions and they may differ from your own. I am happy to show the truck in-person to those with genuine interest. My home and place of work are both less than 15 milea away from the Portland Oregon Airport and I would gladly pick you up. The are around 75 pictures to view and I apologize if you get dizzy scrolling through them or have a slow internet connection. It is my intention to make this as close to you seeing and touching the truck for yourself as possible. Feel free to click on the "ask a question" link here in the auction and I will respond to all polite questions. Phone calls are great too. My phone number is 503-887-1231 and calls between 8AM and 9PM Pacific time are just fine. My auction runs for 7 days and is scheduled to end on Wednesday, June the 2nd at 7:30PM Pacific. I reserve the right to end my auction early in the event I accept a genuine offer and the truck becomes no longer available. PLEASE, read my terms of sale located towards the bottom of this screen. I'm a reasonable person but I will not bend on these basic terms unless previously discussed during the auction. A little communication goes a long way. NO RESERVE AUCTION I did not set a reserve price on my Pickup. All that I ask in return is for your bids to be real and your intent to purchase be genuine. My offer of answering questions is sincere so please, don't hesitate to contact me. Every picture you're about to see was taken by me with my handheld digital camera on May 23rd, 2010. No photo has been altered or enhanced in any way. This is my truck and the upcoming pictures are an accurate depiction of her real life appearance. Thanks for your time, DAVE She's such a genuine and authentic vintage correct looking truck. Please note the light spot on the bumper. That is where the front license plate bracket mounts. I have it and it is included. I simply prefered the cleaner, un-cluttered appearance. All 5 hubcaps are in mint condition. The truck is sold with a clean and clear Utah title. I will happily transfer into Oregon at the buyers request if they wish. The 1950 Oregon license plate was installed for a photo shoot. It will be included. The cargo/bed area is very nice. Not dented up and abused. Body panels, gaps and seams all fit together nicely. Calendar worthy photo if I do say so myself. It's currently my computer screen-saver. Small paint flaw on left front fender just above tire. Only visible if I point it out on close inspection. Most noteable flaw on the truck. These blemishes are on the bottom of the left rear fender and again, only visible on close inspection. Duplicate of flaw. The interior is nice. The original steering wheel has stress cracks but still in good shape and the horn works great. Seat is excellent. Headliner is excellent also. Non-original radio works perfectly. All gauges are functioning. Bottoms of both doors are excellent. Yes, the speedometer works but I have no documentation for the mileage. The 39378 is simply the current 5 digit reading. Dusty from sitting so many years but very sanitary engine compartment. This photo shows the engine numbers that are visible on the head. Mercury flat head V8 but I'm not sure of cubic inch displacement, horsepower rating or exact vintage. Unaltered ID Plate with correct VIN number. Undersides are extremely dry and solid. That is my index finger pointing to the only rust spot I found. I went over the entire undersides and this small spot was all I could find. Even the wood under the bed is in impressive condition. Terms of Sale: 60yr old vehicle being sold AS-IS: Please read and agree with the following: I have described my pickup honestly, to the best of my ability based on 25 years of owning and driving vintage vehicles. I have free and clear Utah title in my possession. She is 60 years old. I drive the truck locally but service and repairs should be expected. If you are not comfortable with a sight-unseen purchase, please come see the car for yourself or have an independent inspection performed PRIOR to bidding. I will not be responsible for the decisions of others. I would appreciate the winning bidder contacting me immediately upon end of auction just so the lines of communication are opened. My phone number is 503-887-1231. A $1000.00 deposit is due within 48 hours of auction ending, preferably through PayPal just so we are both protected. Wire transfers and verifiable cashier checks are also acceptable. I'm an easy going person so if you need to make special financial arrangements just let me know BEFORE you bid and I'll try to help. I have been with the same bank here in Portland for over 8 years and the Management staff knows me. You are welcome to contact them for your own security if you like. The remaining balance is due within 7 calendar days of auction end in the form of secure funds. Some banks and credit unions do not finance vehicles of this vintage. Make sure if you are financing that your financial institution accepts the year and value of this vehicle before bidding. Please have your method of payment arranged prior to auction ending. TRANSPORT - SHIPPING I am happy to be an active part of this process from start to finish but the buyer is ultimately responsible for pickup or shipping of this vehicle and any pre-purchase inspections need to be done BEFORE auction ending. If you wish to have it shipped using a service, I will gladly assist in loading and be present for the transport condition form or other reasonable help. Locating a transporter is the buyers responsibility but I can make recommendations and share the relationships I've built. Vehicle transport has become very reasonable. I personally use a privately owned trucking company. Dennis is a great guy and his direct number is 503-343-4884. He is based here in Oregon and has handled my transport needs perfectly for the last 3 years with careful handling, excellent rates and fast service even all the way to the East Coast, Australia, Germany, etc. Dependable Auto Shippers (D.A.S.) is a transporter that eBay recommends and my experiences with them were just fine. My location zip code is 97267. Coast-to-Coast enclosed transport is around $1500.00 and even less the closer you are to Oregon. Shipping to Australia, Europe and other Countries has also become affordable and easy to arrange and I am available to assist. If you are outside of the United States or Canada, you MUST contact me BEFORE bidding. If you are an eBay member with negative history or have a (0) or low transaction score, I need to hear from you just to verify your sincerity and accept your bids as genuine. We all started from (0) and I'm happy to give a leg up. I reserve the right to cancel bids for these reasons. Communication is all I ask. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time if the vehicle is no longer available or otherwise SOLD.
