Vehicle Detail
1978 Dodge Lil Red Express, unrestored and in excellent shape for 32 years old. In 1978 Dodge released the Lil' Red Express Truck and it was one of the most unique Dodge trucks that had ever been produced. The Lil' Red Express was not only a real looker but these trucks were also real performers also. In 1978 The Dodge Lil' Red Express was the fastest American made vehicle from 0 to 100 MPH as tested by Car and Driver magazine. Because of a loophole in the emissions regulations the 1978 Dodge Lil' Red Express Truck's did not have catalytic converters, what the Lil' Red Express did have was a special High Performance 360 C.I. 4-barrel small block engine code (EH1) which was a modified version of the 360 police engine (E58) producing 225 net horsepower @ 3800 RPM. The package also included Hemi style mufflers with a crossover pipe breathing through 2 chrome stacks located behind the cab, a special 727 transmission and 3.55:1 rear gearing. This truck is an original condition, stock Lil Red Express truck (minus interior seats being redone in red, steering wheel--original steering wheel comes with truck, and wheels--do not have original wheels). It even has the original owner's manual with the name of the original buyer. The paint is terrific and the wood in the bed is perfect. The undercarriage is "clean" and no rust in the fender wells. The grill is smooth and straight. According to the previous owner, the 360ci motor was rebuilt to stock specifications and has approximately 19,000 miles on it. The truck has been mechanically inspected by a professional mechanic's shop with all mechanical items being corrected—to include a complete rebuild of the transmission. You could drive this truck anywhere and I have. This model does not have air conditioning and does have a towing hitch. Condition: Everything works on the truck with the exception that the fuel gage sending unit only registers ¾ when the tank is full (OEM part still available). The body is rust free with the exception two small rust bubbles on the driver’s door, one on the passenger door (all smaller than a penny). It is missing the right rear reflector light that is found on the passenger side of the truck bed (NOS # 3489894 available from dodgeconnection.com for $35). The black D150 insert logo on the passenger fender is partially gone (150 Insert – reproduction from dodgeconnection.com for $12 or NOS for $16.50) It is as if you are driving the truck off the show room floor in 1978; no modifications that I am aware of. I do not think you can find a nicer, unrestored version of this truck (especially for 32 years of well cared for use). No reserve past opening bid. Lowest price I have ever seen a 1978 Lil Red Express truck list/sell for. Feel free to ask any questions.
