Vehicle Detail

1985 BMW K100RT One Owner, Clean, Clear and Original Illinois Title. I do have the original color matching tour trunk with backrest included with this. This was my brother-in-laws bike, he barely ever rode it. Only 15,839+ original miles. Basically the bike sat for a number of years. Gas turned to varnish etc. So I just did a complete maintenance, including all tune items, all fluids and spline lube etc. Used torque wrenches on all bolts and had a BMW tech audit the checklist while I was working on it. I did 70-90 mph on the expressway to and from Milwaukee for a check ride last week. In Chicago that's barely speeding unfortunately. But the point is I trust the bike and my work. I can show you other work on Harleys I built from the ground up and the people that bought them will vouch for my care, systematic and careful work approach. *Replaced most hoses. *Spark Plugs *Lubed all Cables. *Repacked Steering Head Bearing and Wheel Bearings, re-lubed axles. *Corbin Seat. *Radio Kit. (No Radio) *Brand New Pirelli Tires Front and Rear. Still showing nubbies in pics *Replaced Injectors, Fuel Pump and Fuel Filters. *Cleaned Fuel Tank. *Replaced Air Filter. *Replaced Fork Seals and New Fluid. Used Midrange for softer front end. (Chicago...Potholes and Pavement Dividers everywhere) *Replaced Brake Pads and Brake Fluids. Didn't need them, but it would have been stupid not to replace them since I had the wheels and front end apart. *Did Valve Adjustments and Replaced Valve Cover Gaskets. *It's probably easier to just say I replaced all rubber on this entire bike. *New Top of the line BMW Battery. *Used all OEM BMW Parts including hoses etc. *Shifts quietly and smoothly through all 5 gears, no issues and accelerates smoothly. No hiccups. *Everything works on this bike including the side stand retractor and the cooling fan / thermostat, all lights and signals and instrument panel lights and sensors. *No leaks of any kind anywhere on this bike. Although I'm a Harley mechanic, I did most of the work myself and had some assistance from Seymour at Seymours BMW on Elston in Chicago. I did save all old parts so you can verify all this work was done. If this was all done at a BMW Shop it would be over $2000 for the work alone. I also have a video of the bike starting and running so send me a message with your e-mail address and I'll send it for your review. It also shows the nicks and things on the bike that you can't really see well from the pics. Which are: *Small Scrape under the headlight. *Small Compression Crack on the Right Side Lower Fairing. *The slight scuff and the cracked lip on the Left Side Saddlebag. It's still watertight however. *And a small scratch on the windshield. Buff-able and not in your line of sight. The bike runs like new and you won't find a better runner, especially at this price. If you Fly, Bus or Train into Chicago I can pick you up and you can confidently ride this to either coast with no worries. I've described this more than fairly and if you find any substantial issue not mentioned here you do not have to buy it. If you need to wait til Memorial Day Weekend or something to pick it up I can store it that long for you as long as it's paid in full within my posted timeframe. I can then FedEx you the title so you can bring your plates with when you pick it up. Or whatever else helps you out. Talk to me ahead of time about any other proposals. Please note: This is for Sale Locally and I reserve the right to pull this from the auction at any time for any reason until or unless you hit the "Buy It Now" or it hits the reserve. On May-09-10 at 07:19:22 PDT, seller added the following information: I'm posting this in response to a related question by another interested party. As I cannot answer a question once the initial response is made, I elected to post it here for all interested parties to get the info: Question: Thanks for the info. BTW, is the implication of the other question asked that this bike was originally made for leaded gas, but has more HP than the later version suited for unleaded? Any info on that from your BMW friends? Disclaimer: This is an excerpt of a document written by Bruno Saillard . The complete original document (in French) can be found at: http://ecsm.dyndns.org/~afmb/nouveau/img/membres/articles/K100LT.html This Document was translated by B. Vogel for http://k100rt.aforumfree.com/ and http://www.bmwons.ca The credit to the author must be included in every reproduction of this document. "The first models were not designed to run with unleaded gas. This modification started only in January 85 for K100 with frame number 0007291, November 1984 for the K100 RS (frame number 081107) and frame number 0024999 for the K100RT. " The frame number on this bike is F0052351. However it has the larger fuel tank opening. I asked my brother-in-law about this and he is a little hazy on the specifics but he remembers paying extra money (a significant amount back in 1986) for some performance modifications and also to add the LT equipment like the tour trunk which apparently did not come with the RT back then. This work was performed by ABT BMW in Chicago where it was purchased back in August 1985. On May-09-10 at 07:29:43 PDT, seller added the following information: Heh...being used to Harleys, I took this frame number I just quoted directly off the title. Thinking about it I'm not positive BMW uses the same numbering systems and I may just be quoting the last 8 digits/numbers of the title. I will go out to the garage and take the frame number directly off the frame and compare it with the VIN to make sure and update with yet a 3rd revision... sigh.
