Vehicle Detail
This is a 1986 Mercedes 300D that was imported to the U.S. from Germany. VIN is WDB1241301A257542. It was set up professionally to run both Diesel and Bio-Diesel. I am the third owner and just came into possession last month. I took the car to settle a debt from the estate of the second owner. The car currently resides in Springboro, Ohio which is 20 miles south of Dayton and 30 miles north of Cincinnati. The car is registered and titled in Ohio. The Good: The car runs and drives. I had it over 80 mph over the weekend. The body is rock solid. No rust at all except for a little surface rust where there are a few stone chips. The are now dings in the car except one on the drivers door. The car can run both Diesel and Bio-Diesel. The car gets approx. 34 mpg with Diesel and I was told over 50 with Bio-Diesel because it burns slower. The car has the original hub caps. The car comes with the original owner's manual but it is in German. The transmission was completely rebuilt approx. two years ago. The car has the original leather. The car has tons of extra parts. Couple of power antennas, a oil filter, a climate control assembly, two power window motors, gauges, and a ton of hoses and stuff I don't know what they are. The Bad: While drivable, this car needs some TLC. If you don't know how to work on cars, this is NOT the car for you. The car needs to have the drivers headlight assembly replaced. The rear power windows don't work(but I have the new motors), the drivers arm rest needs to be replaced. The driver and passenger seats need to be recovered. The power radio antenna needs to be installed( I have two). Paint is oxidized on the roof. Looks bad but it's cosmetic. The Ugly: My wife said we don't have the room for it so it's got to go. My thinking with this car is you could go two ways. One, go for the whole restoral with paint job and you would have a car that would last you for years and years with normal maintenance. Two, do the minor mechanical work, don't worry about what it looks like and drive it for who knows how long. A car this big and solid that gets 34 mpg doesn't come around to often. Honestly, I've always wanted a diesel to convert to bio-diesel and that's why I took the car to settle the debt. However, I have to move and I thought I could take the car and make it my project but our new house doesn't have the room or the covenets to accomodate. I have access to a salvage yard and could consign it and sell off the parts for what I'm asking but I really hate to see a car that was "Green" before there was a name or movement end that way. If your mechanically minded, this car won't disappoint.
