Vehicle Detail

You are looking at a very nice, hard to find 1965 Mercury Comet Caliente 2-door hardtop This car is a factory 289 4-barrel with a 4-speed Here is the breakdown: The door data tag reads like this: Body Color Trim Date DSO Axle Trans 63D C 58 06C 52 A 5 2-DR hardtop Caliente Ivy Gold Ivy Gold 6th day March Los Angeles, CA Locking type 3.00:1 4-speed manual The engine block # is C5AE 6015E and the date code is either 5D4 or 5B4(hard to read with the engine in the car) so it may be the original block for the car, that would be amazing but I am not positive that it is. I had been looking for a clean 64-65 Comet for quite a while, but there simply aren't many like this that aren't beat to death or pieced together from twenty different cars. I finally found this one and I I really hate to sell it but I simply must "thin the herd". I have too many irons in the fire right now. This car was restored about 10 years ago, it has about 11k miles on everything you see here. always stored inside Rebuilt 289 4-barrel Rebuilt Toploader 4-speed Rebuilt rearend Paint/upholstery this is truly a very nice example of a car you don't often see, I'd be willing to guess that a 4-speed Caliente is more rare than a 4-speed Cyclone from a production standpoint. The paint was done in 1998, the rest of the restoration took place about the year 2000 according to the man who restored it and all the paperwork I have. The car shows very well and has been well taken care of. This is a life-long California car, it was built, delivered, and lived in California its entire life until I brought it to Oregon about three months ago. STILL HAS BLACK PLATES!! very cool! The family I bought this car from owned it for 13 years prior to me and had the restoration done during that time. I personally drove this car 600 miles from Carmichael, California to my home in Oregon. and let me say it was trouble free and so much fun! The car is very clean in/out all of the front end components have been overhauled along with the brakes, the car tracks straight and tight and it does not wander all over the road...at 65 mph I took my hands off the wheel and it tracked perfectly straight. Some of the mechanical pieces that were replaced/rebuilt during or after restoration: (this is what I have paperwork for or have checked out) Ball joints/control arms Tie rod ends Shifter linkage(s) --has period correct Hurst shifter--shifts very easily Front end bushings Rear leaf springs Front coil springs All spring bushings Brakes front and rear Gas tank Engine(289) Transmission(Toploader 4-speed) Rearend (differential) New radiator New hoses/belt Factory radio rebuilt and converted to be AM/FM while appearing completely stock obviously there is much more, but these are the major items. The interior has all been redone except for the headliner, it is very good.. has a little sag on the rear sail panels where it has lifted from the original backing(still looks fine, no tears or anything of that nature) The body is good, the paint shows very well for being twelve years old(shines very nice with just a wash) there are a couple chips here and there but nothing out of the ordinary(there are a couple small dings on the top of the trunk lid). There are also some rust bubbles on the drivers rear quarter panel down low behind the tire. The family I bought the car from told me there were no patch panels on the body when they stripped it for paint and did not need any either. The floor had a patch welded in during restoration(they welded the patch in from inside the car rather than cutting out the bad floor and replacing it so it looks ugly if you crawl under the car but could easily be repaired in a day(the repair is about 6"x6"). All in all, this car is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but its a very nice car and you would be proud to own and drive it. The car shows well and is a fairly rare combination, through all of the Comets I looked at this is the only 4-speed Caliente that I found... all of the Cyclones on the other hand WERE 4-speeds. Please ask any questions before bidding. Thanks for looking and good luck!On May-08-10 at 23:16:30 PDT, seller added the following information: I have had some questions about the floor pans, so i did a little research for potential bidders... There is a really good company here in Oregon that is a worldwide parts supplier for vintage Ford/Mercury called Dearborn Classics (look them up online). You can get an entire new set of floor pans from them for about $400. And any welder worth his salt can do these in a day. All of the structural area is solid as a rock its just the areas where feet the rest. Just trying to help with any potential concerns. thank you for your interest. -J
