Vehicle Detail

Beautiful 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Nomad. By VIN, it is one of only 8,103 Nomads built in 1956 (yes, you realize it is rare and sought after) and was built in Baltimore, MD and the Body by Fischer was built in Cleveland OH. The VIN and body tag tell you it originally was a Matador Red and Adobe Beige car with red vinyl and red pattern cloth. Car is currently Matador Red and India Ivory with beautiful red and white interior. It is pretty stunning overall. Car’s restoration started in 1984 and was completed in 1995 when the car was put on the road and titled here in Hawaii by the previous female owner. Odometer shows slightly over 1600 miles on it, which I think is the total mileage put on the car since restoration was completed. I can’t verify the original mileage, but as you can tell, this car has been gone through in a frame off type of restoration over an 11-year period in a careful, detailed restoration to bring it to the quality that it is today. The car has been kept in a two-car garage under dust cover for the majority of its restored life. There are some small scratches here and there near the front of the car towards the headlights, a blemish above the driver’s doorway along the roofline, but overall, it is a beautiful car that shows extremely well. I am picky and can tell you… you would be very proud to own it. Simple V8, 283 cubic inch motor, Nice aluminum dual exhaust, edelbrock intake, edelbrock 4 bbl and a simple look under the hood. Motor is not original to the car. Turbo 350 transmission mated to the engine. Can be a tough cold starter at times (think the carb is too big for the motor) but overall, it runs great and is a pleasure to drive. Has original type power-assisted steering on the back of the generator. Have a small temp guage mounted under dash on left of steering wheel. Car has yet to get above 200 degrees, even in stop and go driving and the heat of Hawaii. Overall, very reliable and nothing too over-the-top; setup for cruisin’ and simple maintenance. Car has new rims and tires with less than 200 miles on them! Coys C-5 in Black Chrome, 20” and 18” setup with P275/35ZR20 and P235/40ZR18 tires, Hankook Ventus V4ES ($2,250 for the wheels). Sized appropriately to fill out the wheel wells and make the car really stand out nicely. Since the rims are black chrome, they don’t complete take over the cars appearance. Size of tires do not detract from the quality of ride! Has front disc brakes (dual master cylinder) and drum brakes in the rear. It is a safe, pleasure to drive as it is set up! Undercarriage is spotless. There are still paper stickers on the rear leaf springs from when purchased new during restoration, front springs and the stainless steel brake lines, fittings and other parts below the car, still look brand new. No road crud, build-up or anything like that AT ALL. Painted Matador Red and India Ivory white, beautiful colors. As mentioned, some small surface scratches and the blemish above the driver’s door along the roof which looks like improper prep work at that area before the final paintwork. The area is noticeable, but nothing that really detracts from the car’s overall appearance. Nice chrome bumpers and stainless trim throughout, some of the trim is original with some blemishes, but overall, it is very beautiful! All chromes shows beautiful. Aftermarket xenon tri-bar headlights give it a very nice look and improve safety at night. Beautiful interior colors, aftermarket (to match original bench seat) in front and bench seat in rear. Awesome carpet, headliner, chrome trim throughout; very nice inside. Dynamat type material below the carpet from below steering wheel to front of back seat. Door panels and rubbers all new and are in great shape. Nice matching mats in front and back seat area. Has two color-matched seat belts in the front and in the back. Has nice am/fm, cassette player matched to the dash with 3-way autosound speakers in matched kick panels in the front and kicker speakers in the very back as shown in the pictures. Nice sound for cruising the car. Car has aftermarket A/C installed as shown in pictures. It operates, but is currently not blowing cold. The steering wheel could stand to be repainted and the dash has some rash on top of it where it wasn’t completely buffed out. Simple things to address and make it your own. This is a great find and opportunity to get a rare Nomad that’s been detailed and nicely done. You would not be disappointed with this purchase! We are not looking for trades. I have priced the car fairly for a rare Nomad of this quality of restoration. The reserve is below the Buy It Now by a fair amount. Please email or call me with any questions you may have (808) 285-9614. (Hawaii is 6 hrs behind the east coast). Leave message and I will call back if I do not answer.
