Vehicle Detail
1985 Ferrari Mondial Quattrovalvole Cabriolet - with No Reserve!!! Up for bid is an eye-catching, beautiful Sebring blue metallic Ferrari Mondial QV Cabriolet with saddle tan interior. The striking factory blue metallic paint is a handsome alternative to the usual Ferrari red. Want to be different? This is your car! The 1985 Ferrari Mondial has the preferred and more powerful 3 liter alloy V8 Quattrovalvole engine with 4 valves per cylinder, twin overhead camshafts per bank and Bosch fuel injection. Its tubular steel chassis gives it true sports car handling and instantly recognizable engine sound tell you this is unmistakably a Ferrari. The practical 2+2 layout allows the kids to come along and enjoy the ride. This car has impressed everyone that see her and still gives me an ear to ear smile every time I take her for a ride. This car is a blast to drive for one, two, or up to four people. Unfortunately, it is painfully apparent that it's just not suitable for my family of five - and believe me, I've thought of every way to fit a third kid in the back (and, no, the trunk is not an option). On family outings we need to take my wife's minivan, while the Ferrari sits in the garage. It's like prefering the mule over the thoroghbred. Sadly, I feel it's time for her to move on to a new home that can give her the attention she deserves. Here are the details... Body Condition - She's not a show car but does have a good to very good overall appearance. The paint is shiny but there are small stone chips in the front panel. The rear deck lid looks like it was polished to the point of wearing through the paint along the lid edge (see picture). However, the body shows no signs of collision damage other than the front air dam that apparently had some contact with a curb (see picture). She has some door dings on both sides. There is a small quarter-sized spot of rust on back panel, which can only be seen when the trunk is opened (see picture). The lower panels are sound with no signs of rust. The air dam and underside panels have some scrape marks. The ride is solid and firm with no body rattles, even on bumpy roads. The windshield is new. The convertible top looks "like new" with no signs of wear to the cloth. The plastic rear window does have some distortion but is clear and not yellowed. The top boot cover is new. Mechanical Condition - The engine reliably starts every time and runs smoothly. Timing belts were replaced 5 years ago. All coolant hoses were replaced, including the two long hoses through the center tunnel. The radiator was professionally serviced and the coolant overflow tank and pressure cap are new. The temperature never nears the point of overheating, even on the hottest summer days, in traffic. The fuel injection air plenum and throttle body were professionally powdercoated with the correct red wrinkle finish. The air conditioning doesn't seem to work and lately the A/C compressor's clutch sometimes makes a rattling noise for the first minute of running, sometimes not. The transmission shifts smoothy into ALL gears - yes, even second gear - even when cold. The transmission shift rod seal should be replaced - it does weep oil slightly. The clutch slave cylinder was rebuilt. The brakes stop the car straight, evenly and smoothly. The brake pads look fine. The car steers normally with no pulling to either side. Electrical Condition - This car has the superior modern blade-type fuse panel that virtually eliminates the electrical gremlins associated with the earlier undersized "torpedo" type fuse panels. All switches and solenoids work fine (front and rear trunk lid releases, enging lid release, glove box and gas door releases). The power windows work fine, although the front windows do go slow but steadily in the "up" direction - a known Ferrari trait. The rear quarter window lift mechanisms were cleaned and they now raise and lower with authority. The older 1985 era aftermarket sound system was replaced with a modern Alpine AM/FM/CD/MP3 Stereo head unit, front and rear Polk component speakers and two JVC slimline powered subwoofers hidden under the driver's and passenger's front seats. No cutting of interior panels or console was done for the installation. The subwoofers have a fused dedicated power feed direct from the battery. The console "status monitoring" panel works fine - the exception being the oil level sensor on the oil dipstick is non-functioning. However, a custom plug disables the warning light and the oil is checked regularly, the "old fashioned" (and much more reliable) manual way. Interior Condition - Seats are near "like new" condition. They are soft and supple, not dry or sun damaged. There are no wear or scuff marks. The previous owner replaced the original upholstery with the correct, original color Connolly leather upholstery. They still have that "new car leather smell". The wool carpeting is in very good condition with only a slightly worn edge by the "dead pedal" to the left of the clutch pedal. Color matched floor mats are new (sans any Ferrari logos). The dash has no cracks or sun damage. The door panels were recently restored and redyed and are near flawless - the only exeption being a slight color difference between the panels and the map pockets. The console switch panel (no longer available from Ferrari) was replaced with a custom anodized aluminum panel complete with engraved switch icons. Tires and Wheels - New and new. Wheels are standard sized 16" reproduction Ferrari 5 star wheels. Purchased from Superformance in the UK, they are a welcome alternative to the metric sized originals. They are fitted with Avon 225/55ZR16 tires, selected for their performance with minimal road noise. The standard 16' size affords a vast selection of readily available performance tires, instead of the original, odd-sized Michelin TRX radials, that are now only available thru specialty tire retailers at over $500 EACH! Misc - Included are two cockpit tonneau covers - one yellow nylon cover that I use indoors and one grey "weatherproof" cover for outdoor use. All books and manuals. Two tool pouches with hand tools and jack kit. Title is clean and in-hand. I have done my best to describe the vehicle as accurately as possible. This is, after all, a 'pre-owned' vehicle and there is no warranty, expressed, implied or otherwise. I know this may be alot to absorb but I wanted it to be clear to any bidder that the car has been well sorted and any repairs to be done at this point would be typical of any car of similar age. In many ways this car is better now than when it left the factory! I keep the car on a lift in a heated garage at my home. I'd be glad to answer any questions. I can be reached by phone at (631) 734-2342 or (516) 807-4241. Happy bidding!
