Vehicle Detail

Annette Funicello Personal Property 1975 Cadillac Eldorado 2 door Hardtop Sedan THE ANNETTE FUNICELLO COLLECTION: The Personal Property of Annette Funicello Authorized and Authenticated by the Annette Funicello Research Fund for Neurological Diseases Item:  Annette's personally driven 1975 Cadillac Eldorado 2-door hardtop coupe sedan with custom circular pinstripes (inspired by Mickey Mouse) Date:  Ordered at Gene Winer Cadillac (Bakersfield) in October 1974; Built in Detroit in December 1974 (sales order form included; as ordered under Annette's name; and signed by Glen Holt, who arranged for discounted purchase from his friends at the Cadillac dealership in Bakersfield. In fact, three Cadillacs were ordered that day; one for Annette; one for her parents; and another for Glen... a friendship dating back to her younger years when the horses they owned might be running at one of Southern California's harness races at Hollywood Park, Santa Anita or other local racing venues). Description:  This 1975 Eldorado was the first Cadillac ever owned by Annette Funicello... purchased while she was a young mother and still living in Encino, California.  In fact, this is the car she drove as a "carpool mom" for the next decade.  When Annette later purchased another Cadillac in 1985, she gave this one to her father, Joseph Funicello, who then licensed it in his own name (support documentation included).  When Annette's parents made plans to move to Palm Springs in the late 1980's, they returned the car to Annette and her husband, Glen Holt.  From that point forward it was registered in Glen's name and used briefly at at the ranch until it was placed in storage there.  A Certificate of Non-Operation was filed with the State of California at that time. (March 29, 1988; included with sale). Throughout her lifetime, Annette owned three Cadillacs: this 1975 Eldorado; a 1985 Coupe deVille; and a 1996 Eldorado.  The car offered in this listing is the last of the remaining cars that Annette once drove; never before offered to the public.  Offered "as is" with no guarantees or warranties. Car includes custom harness racing hood ornament (broken front leg on ornament); with signs of wear to arm rest on driver's side; with various cracking to interior vinyl and surface applications.  Car spent first decade since purchase at Annette's home in Encino.  Since that time it has been stored at the ranch.  Additional photos with video of the car in operation (filmed January 2019) can be viewed at the Research Fund's FB page. Electric antenna will need adjustment or repair; as antenna does not entirely retract when in the "off" position.  Original carpeting reveals a hole in driver's side carpet... from where Annette's high heels would rest while she was driving.  Glen elected simply to never have it repaired... as it was a forever reminder of his "Annie." Custom fender skirts were added to this vehicle at the point of purchase.  Fender skirts had been standard until the 1974 model... and as Annette liked them, the option for 1975 was included on this vehicle. In recent years, battery needs to be recharged after time in storage.  When charged in January 2019, the battery held its charge just fine; starting quickly the next day.  Car was driven for filming video footage (posted at the Research Fund's FB site); and runs normally.  However, before driving any significant distance, it is recommended that new owner have all hoses, gaskets and belts inspected by a qualified mechanic before scheduling a road trip!  We're aware of no defects, but after such a long period in storage (particularly during exposure to multiple years of summer heat), it's reasonable that attention may be recommended prior to scheduling a long drive. Several surface stress cracks are noted in the non-metal rubberized and/or fiberglass parts that were used in manufacturing the vehicle (as shown in photos and video).  As the car has been stored indoors and not exposed to the elements, the impact of those cracks has not become an issue.  However, these are recommended for attention by the next owner in preserving the integrity of the vehicle's exterior. Also, as the buyer will be responsible for pickup and/or transport of the vehicle with 7 days of auction end, it is strongly recommended that the buyer be present when the car is loaded on the transport vehicle.  This will allow for in-person inspection of the vehicle's condition before releasing to the transport company selected by the buyer.  Clear title is currently in the possession of Glen's family and will be provided to the buyer at a mutually agreed-upon time, as soon as funds have cleared; thereby allowing for transport of the vehicle. Condition:  Approx. 96,000 original miles; no rust; has been driven periodically (at least quarterly) since it was returned to Annette and her husband, Glen Holt.  Last driven on January 23, 2019. NOTE:  Car is offered as an exclusive one-of-a-kind classic automobile once belonging to America's "favorite Mouseketeer."   Original sales order (listed as "Annette Funicello Gilardi"; her married name at that time) is included; along with copies of various California registration forms and annual license renewals.  Car is offered "as-is" and sale is final.  Clear California title is provided through the estate of Annette's husband, Glen Holt.  No mechanical guarantees or warranties can be provided in light of the significant amount of time that the car has been in storage.  Even so, our hope is that the car is acquired by a dedicated collector and car restoration expert who is able to provide the necessary work to bring the car back to an impressive showroom beauty... one that is worthy of its original owner. $1,000 deposit payment required via PayPal within 24 hours of auction end. No financing available from seller.  Remaining balance is due no later than 7 days from auction end.  Verification of cleared funds required prior to transfer of title and/or release of vehicle for transport.  Sales tax required for California buyers (and various other states when required by law).  All other DMV and registration requirements are responsibility of buyer. Provenance: As stored since non-operational registration was filed; in an enclosed car garage at Glen & Annette's ranch near Bakersfield, California About Us The Annette Funicello Stage Annette Funicello and Glen Holt were married on May 3, 1986 and together in 1993 they founded the Annette Funicello Research Fund for Neurological Diseases for the purpose of researching the cause, the treatment and the cure for Multiple Sclerosis and other neurological diseases. As Annette's disease progressed, she and Glen had redoubled their efforts to fund the critical research that is needed to fight all neurological diseases, including multiple sclerosis, the disease that Annette had so valiantly fought for more than two decades. Their relentless struggle against the disease served as an inspiration that can motivate Annette's friends and fans to participate in providing the financial support that this ongoing research requires. Perhaps Glen said it best: "I want to touch their hearts so they will go out there and help us raise some money. I am going to fulfill her wish to help find a cause and a cure." Glen faithfully cared for Annette until her passing on April 8, 2013. After Glen's passing on February 12, 2018, the Research Fund's Board of Directors stepped forward to carry on the work begun by Annette and Glen more than a quarter-century ago. In support of Annette's final wishes, 100% of the proceeds from her personal property will be used to support the continuing work of the Annette Funicello Research Fund for Neurological Diseases. The Annette Funicello Research Fund is honored with the generosity of The Walt Disney Company in re-naming the Walt Disney Studio's historic Stage 1 sound stage on June 24, 2013... forever more to be known as "The Annette Funicello Stage." Company president Robert Iger shared these personal thoughts in remembering Annette Funicello: "Annette was and always will be a cherished member of the Disney family, synonymous with the word Mouseketeer, and a true Disney Legend. She will forever hold a place in our hearts as one of Walt Disney's brightest stars, delighting an entire generation of baby boomers with her jubilant personality and endless talent. Annette was well known for being as beautiful inside as she was on the outside, and she faced her physical challenges with dignity, bravery and grace. All of us at Disney join with family, friends and fans around the world in celebrating her extraordinary life.
