Vehicle Detail
The car was purchased new in September 2002, at the Sunset Audi dealership in Beaverton OR, and it comes with the original window specifications sheet, showing a $44,975 price in 2002, to include $1,200 Pearlescent white clear coat, Onyx leather / Silver Alcantara Interior colors, 5-speed Tiptronic, Premium Package $1,200 (power glass sunroof, Homelink remote transmitter, auto dimming inside and outside rear view mirrors), Bose Premium Sound System $650, Heated Front Seats - $450, Sport Trim Package $400 (Leather / Alcantara Upholstery, Aluminum Mirror Housings, Silver Aluminum Trim). Maintenance records are provided from the same dealership where purchased. The original owner drove the car to 111,300 miles until I bought it from him on March 31, 2016. I used the car for highway commuting from San Francisco to Palo Alto on HWY 280, adding 9k miles each of the two years I've owned it. The first timing belt service was done by the original owner recorded at 90k, and I did the second timing belt change fewer than 100 miles ago during a $2,500 service at 129k, well ahead of the recommended service interval. The work was performed by the Audi specialist, 2Bennett in Davis, California. The car can be driven home with confidence any distance across the country with nothing missing, nothing broken, and no explanations or quirks of character. I've owned eleven Audis, and wanted the final year of the B5 S4 Avant in pearl while with Tiptronic and Alcantara interior, and searched for two years until I found a flawless original owner example. This car is unaltered from stock, and one of only twelve pearl white Avants with 5 speed Tiptronic provided for the US market in the model’s final year. The car has all of the original Audi floor mats which are in excellent condition. It also has all of the original Avant cargo accessories: rear cargo tonneau cover, floor parcel net, and cargo divider net. The car comes with both original key fobs and a valet key, the original window spec sheet, owner’s manuals, first aid kit and tool kit. The floor parcel net, first aid kit, and ski pass-through sack have never been opened or used. The 18” RS wheels came with the car from the original owner. The car is accident free, solid, tight, with no rattles, with all equipment intact and working like new. The engine is in a great state of tune with like new power, tracks true and handles as it should. The Onyx leather on the seats, steering wheel and shifter, and silver Alcantara seat inserts show almost no wear and no discoloration. There are only these small issues: - some pixels are out in the center display screen - shirt button sized stone chip and hairline crack in front windshield ahead of rear-view mirror; location renders it unseen from inside - curb rash on wheels There is no rust or parts corrosion anywhere. The paint is entirely original; glossy pearlescent white is nearly unblemished around the entire car, including all leading edges. The headlights and windshield are clear and show only light wear. There are only a few rocker panel nicks, with no accidents or repairs, no dents anywhere and no scratches on either bumper. There is no touch-up paint anywhere on the car and no repairs nor any panel issues. Serviced within the last 100 miles: complete timing belt / tensioner / water pump service, synthetic oil change, common turn signal issue resolved, battery replaced, four wheel alignment, pressure bled and replaced brake fluid for a $2,500 service at 2Bennett in Davis California. On Jul-14-18 at 10:52:08 PDT, seller added the following information: NOTE: ebay is having an issue posting the Q&A section. I have responded to all questions and hopefully ebay will show those on the listing soon. On Jul-15-18 at 08:45:25 PDT, seller added the following information: NOTE: Since ebay has yet to resolve the Q&A posting issue with only two days remaining, I'll post the most helpful items here. dcheyne55 Can you send the last few repair bills you had done. Did 2bennet indicate any near future items that need to be taken care of? Thx Dan New message to: dcheyne55Dan: I've attached the four page 2Bennett invoice. [Disregard my personal note at the top, regarding business expensing.] I had put the car in service to address anything, so no future needs observations were noted on the 2Bennett invoice. Shops always either try to provide good service with insights, or promote future repairs for the business by making suggestions so to have none noted is a testament to its condition. Two notes on the invoice: - alignment: one of the reasons I took it there was after a four wheel alignment elsewhere, the car still pulled slightly to the right, which though minimal, bothered me. 2Bennett resolved it. I believe it was a slight shock tower tightening / adjustment issue. It tracks perfectly straight now. - battery: after I drove it home I noticed that 2Bennett only serviced the battery when I thought they'd be replacing it. They apparently found it to be performing fine, but if the car sat for a while, the battery was still dying even though it was fine if it was used routinely. I replace the battery July 3. Porter Since I can't insert attachments here, I'll take down the four images of the wheels and replace them with the four page 2Bennett invoice of the recent service. On Jul-15-18 at 09:09:46 PDT, seller added the following information: New message from: damir7081 (2,463 ) Hello, If I were to win this auction I would need to arrange transportation. Are you ok with the vehicle sitting for additional week or however it takes for them to pick it up? I'm from Iowa and would not come to pick up the vehicle in person. Thanks New message to: damir7081Yes, the vehicle would be able to reside with me until the shipping truck arrived, or the new owner flew in to drive it home.On Jul-15-18 at 09:53:17 PDT, seller added the following information: NOTE: Though the section for revising photos states, "You already have 24 photos. To add a new one, delete one first." the help desk rep states that I can't change photos once the auction has begun. As a work-around, I've uploaded the 2Bennett pages to google docs. If you provide me an email address, I'll be happy to give you access. However, this ebay Q&A technical glitch has become a time burden; something that I've not experienced when selling on BaT. I'd like to limit the time that I need to be at the computer by giving access to those who have placed a bid. On Jul-15-18 at 15:51:18 PDT, seller added the following information: New message to: dcheyne55I would need to peruse the original owner's documentation. During my two years of ownership, these were not identified by Audi specialists as needing attention. The front end and steering are tight, with no play or noise. The engine has no leaks.dcheyne55Do you know when the front control arms were replaced and when the valve cover gaskets were replaced. After owning a few of these I know they need to be done so just trying to see their age. What reserve price are you looking for? Thx DanOn Jul-15-18 at 16:01:49 PDT, seller added the following information: In lieu of answering multiple examples of the same questions... - I do not have a Buy-it-Now price. - Providing my reserve price to anyone for the asking, seems counter-intuitive to me.On Jul-16-18 at 14:34:18 PDT, seller added the following information: I'm sorry that ebay has failed to resolve the Q&A system on my listing. It may ultimately compromise the auction, and require relisting, but I am here to answer any questions during this last day. PorterOn Jul-16-18 at 23:15:16 PDT, seller added the following information: If you know about the B5 S4 and have wanted one, this is the right one to own. The car was pristine during the first owner's years, as it was his wife's car (he had an e63 wagon). I owned a B5 S4 previously, that someone totalled while parked in front of my house on a hill in San Francisco. I loved that car, but it was a common sedan in silver, and I'd always wanted an avant in pearl white. So I sat on the insurance money, deciding to take my time and wait for the last year model and best version in exactly the configuration that I wanted. I'm glad I didn't know that there were only 12 of these in the country when I started looking, or I wouldn't have had the same patience. When I found an original owner car, I flew up and bought it within 48 hours, and drove it home. It feels tight everywhere and in every way. A lot of Audi enthusiasts believe that the manual is somehow the holy grail, but I've always preferred the Tiptronic if you actually plan to use the car as a daily driver, and I commuted in mine. It's the best of both worlds; effortless on the long hauls, but semi-auto on the occasionally twisty road. I break above 30 mpg on the highway yet it still pulls like its new on a test drive back in 2002. This is is an amazingly balanced car, in the sport and the utility, in the power and efficiency, in the aggressive yet subtle styling. This is absolutely one of the best, most original examples of the last year out there, and IMHO, the best configuration of the model possible. I've always thought that the pearl white was one of Audi's best paint colors to this day (+ Nogaro blue on the RS2). If you have been interested in this model, I don't believe that you can do better than this well maintained and twice loved example. As for my reason for parting with it; it's simply based in circumstances. I live in the city in San Francisco, and my house has only a one car garage so while I have cars out on the street, only my top car gets the indoor spot, so I regularly move on from cars every couple of years because only one car gets the garage, and anything else goes on the street where life can be rough (even totalled). I'm now searching for the perfect configuration of the RS7 in Nardo gray, and this S4 is too nice to relegate it to sitting on the street.
