He thought it would be a perfect Palm Springs weekend car, which it is, but he didn't spend as much time in the desert as he'd expected and the car didn't get driven. It's time to move it along to its next owner to enjoy. The car is a head-turner as you can see. You're sort of a rock star when you drive it. The carburetor was recently overhauled and the car starts up great and accelerates down the road with the authority you'd expect from a car named Thunderbird. It is equipped with the top of the line 312 cu in V8 engine rated at 215 hp. I've been driving it around town the last few days in the higher temps and it's had no overheating issues. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly and without issue. Somewhere along the way the front drum brakes were upgraded to period front disc brakes for better stopping. A welcome enhancement! The painted finish is an older, quality respray but it does have a few issues on the nose and on the hardtop as you can see from the photos. It doesn't take away from the car's overall appeal. Unfortunately the air cleaner screw didn’t get tightened down all the way at some point and there is a small dent in the hood scoop. Under the car appears to be dry with no signs of rust. The fuel tank looks like it has been replaced with a new one and perhaps the exhaust as well. This particular model is not equipped with a soft top, just the removable hardtop with iconic porthole windows. The bright trim on the car is good but does have some pitting here and there. The wheels sport the original wheel covers but the spare tire on the rear continental kit has an after-market cover installed. Inside the car is in great shape. The seats and door panels show little or no signs or age or use. The instrument panel is free of cracks or discoloration. There are a few signs of age on the dash as the lenses on the tachometer and the clock are crazed. They are probably not difficult to update these days with all the parts available for these cars. The radio is a modern version that has a vintage look. I see a plug under the dash that would connect to an iPod or other music player. The factory temperature gauge is not working but a previous owner added modern gauges for temperature and oil pressure under the dash which function fine. Though lovingly cared for over the years, this is a 60+ year old vehicle and there are a few things that need attention like the non-functional tachometer, heater fan, clock and the radio. These items were taken into account when we formulated the buy-it-now price for the car. Overall this T-Bird is in great shape and would be a great driver ready to be driven, shared and enjoyed!
