Vehicle Detail
For sale: Rare 1977 Dodge Power Wagon W200 Sno-Commander heavy duty 4x4 with factory Dana 60 front end. These and the earlier Sno-Fiters are the rarest of the 70s Dodge "Adult Toy" theme trucks. Mostly original survivor truck from the high desert of Montana, never seen salt. This truck is higher than a Highboy and beefier in just about every way! Purchased new by a rancher on the Montana high line. After seeing the sales literature, he really wanted a Sno-Commander, but couldn't find one locally and drove to the nearest dealer that had one(in Minnesota) to get it. He used it on the ranch for several years, then traded in to the local Dodge dealer where it was used as a plow truck. I drove by the truck often, admiring it on the dealer lot off US Hwy 2. One day it was gone and I inquired to the dealership, they sold it to a local guy, and kept the plow to put on another truck. 2 years later I ended up buying it from him with plans to do a full restoration. I have subsequently found a really nice 78 Macho Power Wagon and have decided to keep that truck instead. This Sno-Commander has all original docs including window sticker, build sheet, manuals, and warranty papers. I'll do my best to describe it below, please read the entire ad and see linked Photobucket album for more detail pics including underside. Exterior: Mostly original paint, thin in spots but still shines. Plenty of dents and dings from plow use, but no major rust. Truck has never seen salt and only very minor exterior rust spots on doors and bottoms of fenders. See detail pics in linked Photobucket album. Driver front fender and inner panel were professionally replaced long ago, as was driver box side. Looking in from behind panels, I don't see any evidence of puller holes or bondo. Underside is very clean, only rust spot I can see is small area on driver side cab/rocker area at bottom. Floors look good underneath as do cab mounts and drop-offs. One cab mount cracked and has been welded. Tailgate needs spot welds on one side replaced, starting to separate between inner and outer panel. Box has 4 small holes where 5th wheel plate was mounted. There are some hail dings in the hood. Overall its a good looking truck that draws compliments and a crowd and the gas pump. Interior: Decent original driver condition, seat was upgraded during plow years to more comfortable 80s Power Wagon seat, which was a bolt-in. I don't have the original. I have a new Auto Custom Carpet set that will be included. I was planning to put it in, but realized that due to the rarity and desirability of the truck, the next owner may be doing a full restore and might want to check floors first. Previous owner added a piece of sheet metal on driver side floor, decent job but not sure why as the floors look good from underneath. Most everything in working order, wipers, heater, turn signals, etc - can use as is and improve as you go. Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives out fine. Dealership and previous owner both state 68k miles is original, but I have no documentation on mileage. Overall wear on truck and pedal and shift handle wear looks consistent with 68k miles. Appears to be original 360 and no smoke or major leaks. Does have a lifter ticking occasionally, may come out of it with driving. Oil and temp gauges have been added, truck doesn't overheat and oil pressure when warmed up is about 40 driving and 20 idling. 4wd works in high and low range. Previous owner replaced clutch, shocks, brake hoses. 10 ply 235/85/16 winter traction tires have good tread but are flat-spotted from sitting, they'd work fine for plowing if you don't plan highway trips. Also included are all 4 original 16.5 rims with old and cracked deep lug bias ply tires, they will be in the bed when truck ships. Drive as is and sort it out further as you go. Most everything works, but emergency brake not working. It's an old truck and if you haven't fooled around with old trucks before, adjust your expectations accordingly. I don't think you'll find a more solid and original Sno-Commander out there. at least from what I've seen. Pricing/Misc: Looked for comps online, but these trucks are few and far between. Only ones I've seen for sale are rust belt junkers with holes you can stick your foot through, and those are advertised at $8k and up. This truck is NO RESERVE and will sell. It runs and drives but flying in and driving it home probably isn't viable as Montana is a huge state with many remote areas that don't have cell service or roadside assistance. Reasonable transport is available, I will drive truck to meet your transporter and help load it. Title is clear and in my name, buyer will need to get insurance upon purchase as I will cancel mine. Truck can stay here for 30 days, after that $100/month storage will be due. Reasonable transport is available, and I will help load the truck on a transport.
