Vehicle Detail

Those who know what this bike is need no explanation. For those unfamiliar, this is the first year model of the R100RS, the first motorcycle ever to have a wind tunnel-tested fairing. Designed by Hans Muth, this remains one of the most handsome and functional fairings ever made. This is an original bike with approx 35,000 miles. It has always been stored indoors. It is in very good to excellent condition with a few scratches in the typical locations for these motorcycles though there are no dents or cracks and it is a solid original bike. This is the first year of this bike with the blue pinstripe spoked wheels, original bluish/grey paint with blue pinstripes and blue ATE calipers. It has an upgraded Parabellum windscreen (original is included), New Wilbers 900.00 shocks 2,000 miles ago. The bike has been covered, stored with fuel stabilizer and float bowls drained, with new dry cell battery installed 4/2018. The odometer functioned normally until. 29,000 miles, and then developed a problem not uncommon to old BMW airheads (this can be verified with Palo Alto Speedometer) where a 100 mile ride will register thousands of miles. I had one repair done to the odometer, but it still does this. The speedometer and trip odometer work perfectly. The definitive fix is sending to Palo Alto which I haven’t done. This is a 38mm exhaust valve model, a California CFO bike. I have both 38 and 40mm bikes from 1977 and 1978. The advantage of the 38 is better mileage and better low-end torque. The advantage of the 40 is a bit more top end hp. I have owned three R100RS bikes. It remains my favorite bike of all time. I just don’t ride anymore having started tracking cars 7 years ago. Maintenance schedule is listed below. Any non-tinkerer maintenance was performed by Guenther Wuest, WUMA Inc. Top-end refreshing was done in 2009. The bike has been stored and not ridden since 2011 with yearly stabilized fuel removal and replacement and oil change with driveline oil changed every other year. I put a new battery in 4/2018, new fuel and the bike started and ran without issue.
