Vehicle Detail

I bought this bike in 1996, with about 22,000 miles on the odo. Unfortunately, the old timer who sold me the bike had removed the original bodywork and installed a big fairing, tall windshield, high handlebars, crash bars, luggage racks and even a trailer hitch. I pulled all that stuff off and put on a low handlebar from a K75S. The bike is no longer a true R100RS, sporting that beautiful bodywork that makes this model such a classic. The bike is largely unrestored, with a few cosmetic defects - pin striping worn through, wear on the saddle, a damaged rear seat cowl poorly repaired and some scratches on the front frame down tubes where crash bars were removed (see pictures). After getting the bike running, initial mods were San Jose BMW's 38 mm Mikuni carb conversion kit, duel plugging heads, Dyna ignition and alloy upper triple clamp. Over the years, I've replaced the clutch, rebuilt the gear box (including the BMW shift kit), refreshed the top end with Ed Korn installed unleaded fuel valve seats and new valves, bored cylinders to the first oversize and installed new +1 OEM pistons and rings along with light weight wrist pins, replaced rusted out mufflers with new OEM mufflers, rebuilt the front brake master cylinder, replaced front and rear brake lines and had Palo Alto Speedometer go through the instrument cluster and rebuild the speedometer.I have done some light touring on this bike but mostly ridden it commuting in recent years. It runs fine on 91 octane gas, with no pinging. It has always been garaged. While not a true classic, this is a nice old bike that I will be sad to part with it. Included are some tune up parts (oil change kits, spark plugs, push rod seals, head gaskets). I have a stock seat cover, should you wish the fix the seat wear. Some airhead special tools, too.
