Here we have a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. This is no normal Impala however, this is the “Police Interceptor” model built for police departments and not available for retail sale. Furthermore, it is the 9C3 police model with a more upscale trim (woodgrain interior, hubcaps, etc) as opposed to the standard 9C1 police model. BEFORE WE GO ANY FURTHER THIS WAS NOT A BEAT UP PATROL CAR. The Police Interceptor features many mechanical upgrades over the retail Impala LS/LT/LTZ including: •A larger 3.8L V6 (200 HP) compared to the 3.4L V6 of the retail model•A heavy duty 4T65E transmission (4-speed automatic) with a lower gear ratio for better acceleration.•Heavy duty suspension with heavy duty struts & shock absorbers.•Heavy duty steel wheels (with hubcaps)•Larger heavy duty 4 wheel ABS disc brakes. •Larger radiator with dual electric cooling fans.•Larger battery and a larger alternator. •An extra power steering fluid cooler.•140 MPH Certified Calibration speedometer.•Rubberized heavy duty interior floors (as opposed to carpeting). This was a former unmarked car for the NCPD and was very well taken care of. It runs beautifully and is a blast to drive. The engine idles smoothly and it has great passing power. It brakes well. The heat works great and it gets hot inside very quickly!!! No check engine lights. (The light you see on in the gauge photo is a door ajar light) The interior is almost spotless. It has dual cloth bucket seats up front (drivers is powered), and a vinyl rear bench seat. It has power windows and locks (but no keyless entry) For what it is, it’s pretty spacious and comfy. The stock 4-speaker audio system works well with no issues. The tranmission shifts smoothly and has no issues whatsoever. It goes down the highway like a cloud. This Impala is equipped with four matching Goodyear Eagle RSA tires with lots of life left in them. There are only two cons with this vehicle: •The horn does not work.• The air conditioning system needs to be recharged ($60 at a mechanics shop, or you can do it yourself with one of those cans you can buy at any auto parts store).
