Black & Red 1-Owner Survivor & Factory Orig Paperwork 1960 Ford Thunderbird Convertible 1960 Ford Thunderbird Convertible Click images to enlarge Description I purchased this 1960 Ford Thunderbird Convertible from the original owners family. It was explained to me the father walked into the Behrened Brothers Ford Dealership in Baltimore Maryland on April 20, 1960 and traded in his 1958 Mercury on this Raven Black with Red Leather T-Bird Convertible. He walked back out the door after spending a whopping $5,400 dollars on his luxurious new car, $921.00 of that was on factory options alone. As the original sales agreement and window sticker both show the car was loaded with factory options including: Leather Interior Trim, Cruise O Matic Transmission, White Wall Tires, Radio, Heater, Tint Glass, Windshield Washers, Back-up Lights, Deluxe Outside Mirror, Fender Skirts, Power Top, Steering, Brakes & Windows. He drove the car 68,101 miles before putting it into storage in the 1970's. In 2005 the cars original owner pulled his old Thunderbird out of hibernation and decided he was going to restore it and get it back on the road. He started the process by removing the front and rear seats and the carpeting and then cleaning and painting the floorboards. He removed the radiator and then went underneath the car and removed the old exhaust system & fuel tank. He cleaned all of the undercoating off of the bottom of the main floor pan and also painted it black. His next step was to place an order with Pat Wilson's Thunderbird parts running up a tab of $1,300 on new replacement parts. As my next to the last photo shows his purchase consisted of: Complete front and rear brake lines and fuel lines, Master Cylinder, Rebuilt power brake booster, front and rear wheel cylinders, hoses, spring kits, brake shoes, Gas Tank, Grommet, cap, Sending Unit, Straps & Hardware and a complete convertible top Hydraulic Hose Line Kit. To his surprise he discovered the motor was locked up tight and went out and found a low mileage replacement that he sent out and had professionally rebuilt that is now being sold separately. Shortly after he picked up his newly rebuilt engine the cars owner suddenly fell ill and unfortunately was never able to get back to his project. The T-Bird and the motor were properly stored in a clean dry environment until my recent purchase. The car is not rusty or crunchy underneath, the chrome is not pitted or flaking and the interior has not been eaten up by rodents. The Raven Black Body appears to have never been wrecked and still retains all of it's original sheet metal. Even though the old lacquer paint is still shiny there is paint loss, scratches, staining and other imperfections. The body's floor and trunk pans are very solid and have minimal rust but the passengers front floor has some rust through as my photos show. The bottom's of both front fenders are solid. Both doors show no signs of rust or scale and open and close correctly, the car has no body sag. Both rocker panels and lower rear 1/4's around the wheel openings have rust through on the outside but not on the inside structures and need just outer panel replacement. The trunk lid electrically opens and closes revealing a nice trunk area with factory spare tire, jack and tire tools. The folding convertible top assembly is in good condition still retaining it's old white canvas top that needs to be replaced. New hydraulic hoses were installed but the system was never filled or bled and is now inoperable. The car has factory tinted window glass that is all nice and unscratched and uncracked with the exception of the drivers vent wing that has a crack. The power windows go up and down easily except the passengers rear window has a hard time going back up. The red leather bucket seat interior with center console is complete and is in nice original survivor condition. Nothing has been changed or altered. The AM Radio is still in the dash and no extra speaker holes have been added to the interior. The dashboard and door panels are in really nice condition and the steering wheel is uncracked. As before mentioned, the engine is locked up and does not run. The car rolls and steers easily but has no brakes. Also included but not shown in any of the photos are a nice pair of original black fender skirts and the original radiator that was removed from the car. The original owner was thoughtful and smart enough to have kept all of the original paperwork from the day that he bought this Thunderbird including the original Maryland title, Window Sticker, Retail Buyers Order, Sales Agreement Invoice and even 2 sets of the original keys. This car is 57 years old and was pulled out of a 40 year hibernation. Lot's of hard dirty work has been done and several thousand dollars have been spent to get the car to it's present state. This One-Owner well optioned convertible with all of it's original factory paperwork and a desirable color combination makes this a super rare offering worthy of a concourse restoration. Please understand that you are bidding to buy, not to be the first one to look. If you need to examine this Square Bird before the auctions end you are more than welcome and I recommend that you do so. I am not interested in any trades. Any further questions concerning condition or to examine the car or make shipping arrangements, please call 724-984-1659. Please view my other auction for the 1960 Thunderbird 352 motor that was professionally rebuilt and restored and was going to be installed into this car and is now being sold separately, you just might want them both. I will accept a small paypal deposit with the balance due upon pick up of the vehicle within 1 week. Thank you for spending the time to look and good luck bidding! Images sell!
