No. 1E17813 Mileage 83,000 Description: In order to get the proper feel for what this vehicle is all about, please go to the Hagerty website and select “Classic Car, Truck, and Motorcycle Values / Hagerty Valulation Tools" and click on “Condition Ratings”. This Jag is a solid #3 in the Hagerty valuation scheme with many enhancements which will be described below which may make it a #3 ++. An extensive restoration (not total frame off) was done on this car in 1999. I have all the books and pictures of this project. The previous owner had several trophies he had won at local car shows. I have owned the car since 2001 and have taken very good care of it. Exterior Finish: It is a beautiful red with immaculate red paint. There is a small chip near where the trunk closes. Bag boys dropped a golf club on it. Bummer. I had a rust spot repaired on the passenger door about ten years ago. Paint match is an A-. Only a very trained eye can see it. Convertible Top: These cars came with a vinyl top. I think the fabric tops looks much better and spent $2,600.00 to have a new one installed. Very spiffy! Interior Finish: The leather trim around the shifter and the seats may be original. Although obviously not sparkling new, they are quite nice. Dash leather was replaced during restoration and has no cracks. The headlights only work on “high beam”, otherwise all the other lights and gauges work beautifully. Floor carpet is like new. Engine and Transmission: These are original and are in fine condition. I had compressions tests done before I bought the car and have had no freezing or over-heating conditions. I believe these components are virtually unbreakable on these JAGS. It’s the electrical components that can give problems on these cars. Radiator: These cars came with two electric radiator fans and even then they had overheating problems. This car is the coolest running Jag you will find. We fitted it with a new all aluminum radiator from a sprint car race shop in Indiana. Problem solved. Alternator: This unit was re-built several years ago and kicks up plenty of amps. Battery: New Interstate. Cheap batteries don’t provide enough kick for these cars. Starter: Installed new “gear reduction” starter in April 2016. The original starter had begun to give trouble. Kicks it off like a champ! Ignition: The original points and distributor system has been replaced with a new solid state system. Very effective with new starter. These old Jags as well as the “60’s muscle cars don’t like ethanol gas. You have to “fire ‘em up” a little bit with some extra spark. I run the car now on premium grade “ethanol gas now. No problem. Fuel Pump: When I first got the car, turned out it had rust in the gas tank. The gas pick up is in a sump under the gas tank and it filled with rust, result being clogged fuel feed. I removed the tank and had it cleaned and coated inside. No more rust, ever. At that time I also replaced the fuel pump. It got tired this past Winter and we replaced it with a new solid state unit. Fuel flow is fabulous. Tires and Wheels: The new tires probably have 2,000 miles on them. Wheels are original spokes with real knock off hubs. I have the other “wrench off” hubs also. Spare tire is also on a spoked wheel. Water pump: This unit has not been replaced. Brakes: Pads probably have 5,000 miles on them. This past Spring the break peddle got a little soft and the car was leaking brake fluid on the garage floor. This car has dual brake fluid master cylinders. We replaced them both. Fairly expensive job but all is well now. Stops like it is supposed to!! Carburetors: These were completely re-built Nov.2016. Also, new fuel line filters were installed. The car had developed a small fuel leak and this turned out to be the problem. The engine now reves quickly up to 5,000 rpm and never skips a beat. I hope you get the picture that all the components that make the car STOP and GO are NEW. This is a very reliable Jag and great for running to the club, beach, around town or on short to medium road trips. If you are looking for a great “driver” that is a “fabulous looker” this will be a great buy for you. If you are looking for a real “Show Car”, you’ll have to bump up another $50,000 - $150,000. The car has been in Fla for the last four years and has been maintained by a shop in Ft. Myers that caters to exotic, collector, and antique car owners. They claim to have the only complete set of Rolls-Royce repair manuals in So. Fla. They have prepared cars for the Amelia Ils Fla Concours d’Elagance. They have all the scoop on the repair and care of my car. The reason I’m selling the car is that I sold my home in Georgia, the one with the big three-car garage and now I’m a Condo Commando in So. Florida. I really just have no place for the Jag any more. It is a marvelous car and my wife and I have had so much fun with it. I like to say that three things that really make people laugh and smile are dogs, small children, and old cars. This one is real conversation piece. Everywhere I go, people want to talk about the car or everyone knows someone who had one in their youth, or they want to know “What kind of car is that”?? I get a lot of thumbs up and “it’s a real beauty”!! Every trip is a barrel of laughs!!
