Vehicle Detail
Old age and bad knees have forced me to decide to sell my beloved E-30 convertible. This BMW has faithfully performed as my daily driver for the last 5 years, and as a retired mechanic and BMW enthusiast I've done my best to keep her in excellent running condition. These E-30 model BMW's are rapidly becoming collectible treasures, and unfortunately are very difficult to find in pristine condition, as most of them have had their wheels driven off by owners who appreciate the outstanding performance these cars provide. This car is no exception in that it's been used as a faithful transport for many years by myself, and it's two previous owners. She started life here in sunny San Diego, where initially she was used as a demonstrator for a local well respected BMW dealership which is still in business, and has always enjoyed a dry climate here in Southern California. The result is that this car has NEVER been in a salty or damp climate, and is totally RUST FREE. She has done a little battle with other moron drivers, and would benefit greatly from a cosmetic restoration, but has never been in any type of major collision resulting in any structural or internal damage whatsoever. She's had a factory replacement hood and right front fender, and has had her paint spotted more than once, but she's still a proud example of an E-30 and receives an occasional compliment at the gas pumps. She's in desperate need of a new convertible top, and her seats need work as well. The original driver's seat has been replaced with a FlowFit unit, but all of the original heated seat switches and wiring are intact. Her interior has been lucky enough to have had the dashboard survive UNCRACKED, and has always had a Dashmat protecting her from the California sun. The UNCUT dash also boasts an AM-FM CD player with MP3 hookup, and the car retains its original deluxe speaker system. As far as mechanical work, in the last year she's had her timing belt, tensioner, waterpump, cam and crank seals replaced, new clutch and rear main seal, ALL secondary ignition parts, radiator, fuel and air filters, miscellaneous hoses and belts, and just passed California's very STRICT Emissions test just one week ago. In the rest of the time I've been blessed with owning this car, I've replaced the head gasket, done a complete valve service, rebuilt the driveshaft, had all fuel injectors serviced, rebuilt the shifter mechanism, replaced the lower control arms and strut bushings, replaced the shocks and struts, added H&R 2 inch lowering springs, rebuilt all 4 brake calipers, added drilled and slotted brake rotors, and a few more things I can't remember right now. As far as work she would benefit from in the future, the air conditioning system is 100% complete and has R-12 in the system, and the compressor will engage if you activate the button, but she most likely has a bad expansion valve and needs repair. The transmission has a bad 3rd gear synchro, but it was bad when I inherited the car and hasn't changed the way it shifts in the almost 5 years I've owned her. The odometer gears broke at 185k miles, and the true mileage on her is unknown. All windows, door locks, cruise control and instruments work, most all of the tools are in the tool kit, and she has good tires mounted on Bottlecap wheels. I also have the original window sticker and Owner's manual. She needs a heater valve, and the rear third brake light and one foglamp are out. The benefits of this car are many, in spite of some effort needed to rejuvenate her back to her original glory - RUST FREE California CAR!NEVER in any collision resulting in structural damage!MANUAL COVERTIBLE TOP!FIVE SPEED Transmission!UNCRACKED DASHBOARD!Just PASSED SMOG CHECK!CLEAN TITLE in my name! Your inspections are welcome and encouraged, please ASK any questions you may have before bidding. I have the car advertised locally, and reserve the right to end the auction early. On Sep-26-17 at 06:03:26 PDT, seller added the following information: Also, I've replaced the alternator and starter within the last year, and the battery is about 2 years old.
