Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my beloved 1978 Honda Goldwing GL1000 motorcycle. NO RESERVE. HIGHEST BID WINS. THIS BIKE WILL SELL. Bike is located in Denver, CO. This is a nice reliable bike with very low miles that I have ridden cross-country and have owned for 3 years. The bike has 22,200 original miles, about 5,500 of which I have put on. I am the second owner. I bought it from the original owner’s son upon his passing. It hadn’t been ridden in several years, and I was told it was ridden a couple weekends each summer into the mountains of NH. I rode this bike from NH to Seattle, and just last week rode the bike down to Denver, where it sits currently. Bike is plated and currently registered in NH. NH does not title vehicles over 15 years old. Registration serves as title which I will sign over, and bill-of-sale is included as well. I have sold many NH bikes out of state and have never had a registration/title issues. Please ask if you have any concerns. CONDITION: When I first got the bike it had been sitting for a while, so I went through it to get it nice and reliable. The fixes/updates I did at this time are as follows: - Thorough carburetor clean and synchronization - New air filter - Radiator removed and professionally cleaned, water pump inspected, hoses cleaned, and fresh coolant added. - Replaced ignition coils with Dyna coils (a great upgrade for reliability) - New timing belts - Oil flushed twice with new filters - Stock mufflers were pitted so I replaced them with new Harley mufflers which look and sound great (a common upgrade to these bikes) - Final drive gear oil changed - Driveshaft greased - Brakes fluid flushed and replaced - Points set - Valves adjusted - Thorough general lube and cleaning BIKE HAS: This bike has many updates and add-ons. I mentioned the Dyna coils and Harley mufflers above. It also has a full Hondaline Factory luggage system. This is the original factory option luggage which I looked for a long time to find a complete and nice set (Paid $400 just for the luggage set). I think this luggage looks great on the bike, and it is much nicer quality than the other options at the time. I installed a USB charger to the accessory circuit and have it setup in the glove box, so you can charge your phone or GPS while riding. This bike has floorboards for the driver and a heel-toe shifter. This was a common add-on at the time and makes the bike a real comfort cruiser. Lots of space to put your boots, and you can shift and brake lazily, which is nice for casual cruising. Windscreen. This bike has a clear plexiglass windscreen that is great for highway cruising. It keeps the wind off you, but preserves the classic looks of the bike unlike other fairings like the Vetter. It attaches with 4 bolts and is a 10min job to pop it on and off. I take it off for short rides, and put it on for longer riders. I installed a manual fan switch for the radiator fan. I flip it on when in traffic, and off when cruising, works great and is more reliable than the temp sensor IMO. THE GOOD: Bike is VERY low miles. If you know Goldwings, you know 22,200 miles is obscenely low and hard to find for a classic model. Bike fires right up, runs and idles great, and cruises very nice. Paint and chrome are in nice shape. There are a few small dings from normal use and some pitting on certain parts, but overall the bike looks great. All lights and switches function well and look good. Gauges look great too and the faces aren’t faded at all, a common problem. Brand new battery last week in preparation for sale. ISSUES: Overall this bike looks and runs well, but there are some issues, and I will list everything I can think of to be comprehensive. Front tire needs to be replaced. It is worn and old, should be replaced asap. Steering stem bearings have started to get notchy over the last 1500 miles. It is very noticable at slow speed, but you can’t tell while cruising. Cheap part to buy and easy to put in for a home mechanic. Tach gauge is a little sluggish. Still works fine, but is slow to react, could use a squirt of oil. Seat has a separation on one seam (see pics). Reproductions are available cheap on eBay. I have been debating just putting a piece of black duct tape over it. Temp and Fuel indicators read a bit high. This is a common issue on GL’s as a result of the 7v regulator starting to go bad under the gauge clusters. I have a brand new regulator for it (which is included), I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. ALSO INCLUDED: I have been traveling cross-country on this bike and as-such I have a complete tool kit and many spares included with the bike. Full set of wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, etc, etc, etc. Spare timing belts, fuel line and filters, spark plugs, spark plug caps, points, condenser, and many other pieces (see pic). This bike is setup to travel. PAYMENT & PICKUP:’ Immediate deposit of $500 required. Balance due within 48 hours via Paypal. The bike is in Denver at my friends house. I will be here through Wednesday the 20th and flying out after that. It would be ideal if the bike could be picked up anytime on Wednesday, or Tuesday evening. You can ride it home or I'll help you put it on a trailer. If you’d prefer to pick it up later, that will be fine, you just won’t get to meet me, my friend will hand you the keys. No shipping, must be picked up. Cash is acceptable if you can come Wednesday, otherwise Paypal is best. IN CONCLUSION: This is a nice condition vintage Goldwing with tasteful accessories. I would consider it a good reliable daily rider, not a show queen. It would be a good candidate for restoration, or just ride it like it is! I just rode it 1500 miles over the last couple weeks and it didn’t skip a beat – ran great the whole time. I know this bike very intimately – if you have any questions please just ask! Bike is sold AS-IS to the highest bidder! On Sep-14-17 at 18:37:22 PDT, seller added the following information: ADDED: VIDEOS: I have had several requests for a video. Here is a quick clip of the bike cold starting with choke. https://youtu.be/PX4wmBHD5iQ Here is another clip a couple mins later as the bike is warming up: https://youtu.be/sdWFn5cACMU
