Vehicle Detail

1974 Laverda 750SF - Classic Italian Superbike This 1974 Laverda SF is a very late model of the legendary Laverda 750 twin, Laverda’s answer to the four cylinder Honda 750 and other Japanese sport bikes of the late 1960’s. Introduced in 1968, the Laverda 750 had a very successful racing career and was regarded as a premium sport bike in Europe. Originally imported to the US only branded as American Eagle bikes, Laverda took over US distribution in 1970, but very few of these bikes were ever sold here. The 1974 MY Laverda 750 SF received many upgrades, which increased performance, comfort, and desirability. The most important upgrade is the front braking system, now with Brembo dual 280 mm discs, finally matching braking performance with the acceleration. This bike also features Japanese ND switchgear and instruments and a comfortable solo saddle with a lockable rear compartment and the Laverda imprint. The 1974 model is regarded by Laverda experts as the most modern, quickest of the series and the most capable on a racetrack, barring the SFC special competition model. This bike was purchased from a collection in Italy, and we recently imported it to California. Current California title and registration. Completely restored by Italian Laverda specialists in 2009 and ridden occasionally since. Overall condition is very, very good. Paint and chrome was all redone and the electrical system was completely gone through including new dynamo and starter. Excellent paint, polished alloy, nice chrome and all details tidy. Odometer shows 44K total kilometers (27K miles believed to be original). Shows very well, rides beautifully, no issues, no problems, a very nice example of the type in all regards. Motor was redone less than 2000 km ago with high compression pistons and series five racing cam. Also has lightweight valves and valvetrain components. New oil pump with more flow from the SFC competition model. Dual exhaust system without crossover provides lively soundtrack and incredible tone. Extremely fast with an estimated 75 HP and very, very fun and agile. These classic race bikes can easily give new bikes a run for their money. Lightweight - around 460 lbs - and with the later SF2 longer Ceriani rear shocks this bike is a thing of beauty in the twisties. The bikes carried the finest components available at the time, from Pankl con-rods, Ceriani suspension, Mondial pistons, to Bosch electrical parts and a reliable Japanese Nippon-Denso starter, thus eliminating the one problem plaguing nearly all contemporary British and Italian motorcycles at the time: their electrical unreliability. The parallel twin cylinder engine, based on Honda engineering, featured no less than five main bearings (four crankcase bearings and a needle-roller outrigger bearing in the primary chaincase cover), a duplex cam chain, and a starter motor easily twice as powerful as needed. Properly maintained the Laverda 750 is considered to be a very solid and dependable bike. The tubular frame from which the motor is suspended is very robust and contributes to very steady, stable handling and minimal vibration for a parallel twin. The 1974 model is regarded by Laverda experts as the quickest of the series and the most capable on a racetrack, barring the SFC special competition model. A true collectable with the right performance modifications to a basically stock machine, this is a very special Laverda.
