I inherited this 72 Mustang convertible from an Uncle in 2004, who had purchased it from an acquaintance in 1980 who in turn had purchased it in 1979. I have no knowledge of the years 72-78. It is a 351 Cleveland Automatic, runs and shifts great at 79,364 miles and is remarkably original - carpet, dash board instruments (tach, speed, oil, amps, temp, even the Philco AM/FM stereo) all are original and work fine although the stereo is missing a speaker. Even the paint is original, though.new paint is a priority. There is a trace of rust on the right rear quarter[panel, (see photo) the only rust on this car: the rest of the car is remarkably rust free having been rust-proofed. The upholstery is original except for the driver seat (the back is still original) As the photo shows, the replacement material is a fair match and additional material is in the trunk. The top was new in 2006 and has been garaged since.. It works perfectly, and the original boot is in the trunk. The trunk is solid but will not stay open without being propped. The tires are new with only 450 miles on them. Blemishes include the trim around the driver side headlight (photo,) the grill, trim on passenger door, minor dents on both rear quarter panels. There is a crack on the lid of the center console and one of the wheel well trim pieces is twisted. Clear-coat on the driver side of the car has worn out but the underlying primed body is undamaged and ready for fresh paint (see photo) More photographs upon request. It would not take much to make this a $35,000 plus show stopper, but arthritis and old age prevent me from being the one to do so.
