Vehicle Detail
If you are reading this you probably already know that the Super V8 is the top of the line Jaguar XJ variant from 2005, a low production vehicle that is essentially a merger of a fully optioned extended-wheelbase Vanden Plas limo with the supercharged XJR drive train. The car is located in my garage in Rhode Island. It was my daily driver since purchasing it as the second private owner in Spring, 2011 from a wholesaler in Tenafly, NJ until this past Fall, 2016. Before I purchased it in 2011, I had the car looked over by the local Jaguar dealership (Bergen), reviewed the service history with the tech, confirmed the car had all routine maintenance done through that Bergen dealer (and one in South Florida during Winters), and learned that the suspension air springs had recently been replaced. It had about 54,000 miles.Since I purchased it, I've had all routine maintenance and repair work done by Tom Mayo at Metric Motors, an excellent independent foreign and exotics shop near me in Rehoboth, MA ( http://www.metric-motor.com/ ). Work has included replacing the dread clogged radiator core, various hoses and suspension linkages, and the bonnet sensor (to address the well characterized random alarm problem). This vehicle comes with three sets of wheels and tires. I have the (5) original 19" wheels, which have some scratches and old summer tires, but have instead used a separate set (5) of 18" all seasons tires/wheels (Turanza Serenity on elegant Enkei Ammodos) for temperate weather and a set of (4) of 18" winter tires/wheels (Blizzak WS80 on a classic looking Sport Edition A8) in winter over the 30k miles I have driven it over the past 6 years. For the purposes of bidding I suggest you assume all of the tires are worn and need replacement. The battery (Interstate MTP-93) and all 4 break pads (Akebono Euro ceramics for the larger Super V8/XJR brakes) were replaced in 2011 soon after I purchased the vehicle.Air suspension seems to be doing fine. Navigation DVD was updated to a more recent version, I believe 2011-12 (I also have the original 2005 DVD). I have both keys (and the third Valet key). The back seat DVD system works well and the sound system is pretty excellent. The memory heated seats, steering wheel, and mirrors still do all their tricks. Exterior color is Jaguar Racing Green. Interior color is Champagne. I think this is pretty much the most classic and beautiful color combo, but tastes obviously vary. The car is running but has mechanical and cosmetic issues including those described below and is sold as is. I am setting the opening bid below the "rough" condition value listed in most online guides, even though it appears to be a "good" vehicle according to the guidelines of those online guides I do so in recognition of the fact that the car probably needs work to be a reliable daily driver. The price includes the three sets of wheels.Mechanical:- There is a whirring noise at speed that abates when you back off the gas a little, my mechanic believes it is likely the differential. It doesn't seem to affect driving, but it is a noticeable noise and I don't know if/when it may worsen. From what I can tell, the most straightforward way to deal with this would be replace the differential.- There is a very slow leak of coolant, too slow for my mechanic to locate easily- I am having trouble getting the multi-CD magazine in the trunk to eject, power goes to the unit but it seems like the magazine is physically stuck.- All tires are essentially at the end of life as I mentioned above. Cosmetic:- There is some kind of etching/clouding of the clear coat on the hood/bonnet (maybe from leaves?)- There is a long, superficial scratch in the paint on the bumper strip on the R rear passenger door (which reveals some white primer) as shown in pics.- There are also some scratches/dings on the rear bumper- There are scratches in the upper portion of the plastic/chrome surround of the front driver door opening, likely where some fancy lady's rings made contact when she stepped into the car.- There are numerous small paint chips in the front bumper.- The headliner is holding up and looks fine but there is a little looseness in parts on close inspection, and given its age pickier drivers will probably want to replace it. - There is more prominent wear on the left seat bolster leather and pillar fabric on the driver side where the driver slides in and out of the seat, as shown in a pic.- The backing of the original driver side sheepskin floormat is pretty disintegrated and the driver mat is overall is in much worse shape than the other three, which are very nice. - Look at the many pictures included here. So, why am I selling it now? Basically, I bought the car because it is awesome, and I did it on the cusp of a move out of NYC and into suburban New England, when my transportation needs were in flux. Now my commute is 6 miles a day on local roads that rarely allow me to exceed 45 mph. And we have acquired a minivan for trips with the kids, so the Jag's massive back seat and cool rear seat entertainment systems are unused. I have moved on to more pedestrian transportation (an electric hatchback) that better fits my modest needs.I had the car detailed and then photographed it myself this past Fall (probably should have had it photo'd by someone else), and then...procrastinated. It has been in my garage over the Winter and Spring. I have been taking it for brief drives over the interim. I have finally gotten off my butt, hence this ad. I keep a close watch on my email, contact me at bcase@post.harvard.eduI will try to add to this Ebay listing questions that come and their answers. I plan to offer it for sale to local brokers here as well through Ebay. I will probably be moving the car to Metric Motors in Rehoboth for any test drives. I have added the max number of 24 photos through Ebay. See additional photos below of the rear interior, trunk, all season 18" tires/wheels, and original summer 19" tires/wheels. I plan to upload pics of the 18" winter tires and wheels shortly:
