Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is the very rare and seldom seen 1996 Jaguar XJ12. When I first bought the XJ12, I wrote to Anders Clausager, the Chief Archivist of Jaguar Heritage in England because I was interested in production numbers for the XJ12's. He wrote back to me telling me that there were only 277 XJ12's produced in 1996. I also found out that the 1994-1996 XJ12's were the longest Jaguars ever made and the MSRP in the U.S. in 1996 for these cars was $79,950.00!! That was enough to buy a beautiful large home in most parts of the country. When you walked into a Jaguar dealership in 1996, these cars were the centerpiece of their showrooms. Over the last 7 years that my wife has owned this car, it has become known as the "Big Cat". She's loved the car but unfortunately due do neck and shoulder surgeries, she is unable to drive much, so we're moving down to 1 car. The XJ12 has been serviced regularly and has also seen quite a bit of repair work over the years. We have been fortunate that the former head mechanic of Manhattan Rolls Royce and Jaguar has a shop here in the town where we live in and he has serviced and repaired the Big Cat during our ownership. There are over $9100 in receipts for maintenance and repairs accumulated in the last 7 years that will come with the purchase of the vehicle. Most recently a new radiator and starter were replaced amongst nearly every coolant hose being replaced at some point or another. The car was on the west coast since new until just previous to me purchasing it in 2010. It's never been in an accident and has a clean CarFax. Built for the ultimate luxury experience, these cars were crafted to a high standard of interior creature comfort. Beautiful, expensive leather and grain adorn the interior. The rear seating is almost that of a stretch limousine. There is one seam separation about 2 and half inches on the driver seat bottom. The head liner sags and is tacked up in the rear. Otherwise the interior remains in nice shape for 21 years of age and 165K miles of driving. Outside the paint and body is in pretty good shape with a scrape on the passenger front corner bottom bumper and the roof paint is faded and a few age spots on the hood. The 12 cylinder motor is still incredibly strong and responsive...it enters highways effortlessly. Still handles very well and the tires are nearly brand new. It is factory equipped with the Harman Kardon CD changer in the rear trunk area with a factory amplifier mounted next to it. Has factory optioned chrome wheels, although they have peeled and cracked. The spare I believe has never been out of the trunk and the original tire is mounted on it's original alloy wheel. The unfortunate news is that the transmission has been deteriorating to the point that it has to be shifted in the sport shift mode and it takes a little maneuvering to get it into 4th gear. Reverse works only after shifting from the park position, not from drive. This is the primary reason why I am starting the bid so low in hopes that someone who appreciates these rare cars will repair it's transmission at some point to keep it amongst the other living XJ12's and am hoping it doesn't go into the hands of someone who will strip it of all it's expensive, hard to find parts. Also the rack and pinion has a leak that results in a slight drip. Starting bid is only $400, which is about what the tires alone are worth, so if you're the only bidder, this incredibly rare Jaguar is yours for a very, very low price. Again, NO RESERVE, so bid to win. I welcome anyone to come inspect the Big Cat and take it for a test drive. Calls are preferred to texts as I will be more than happy to do a walk around of the car. Bruce On Jan-22-17 at 07:09:56 PST, seller added the following information: For those interested, the transmission in the XJ12 is the very popular GM 4L80E 4 speed transmission which is the originally equipped unit. It is a simple rebuild for any worthy transmission shop and am also seeing rebuilt warrantied units on eBay for under $1200.
